Did your friend's dad say anything about the content of the jokes? I can't find a recap anywhere yet. (Sigh)

I have the ones of Jeff Van Gundy and Yao Ming...... but they are in Chinese, as reported by the Chinese reporters that were there during the Gala.

Jeff Van Gundy was so good.....his jokes on the others were cute, humourous, like those funny comedian talk show.

Yao Ming was good too, cracking a few on Uncle Mutombo......and on himself.

I'm not sure whether I should try to recap them by translating them into English, cos I'm afraid something will be lost in translation.....and it will no longer be funny.

I listened to the whole thing on Calvin Murphy's show Friday. I can't remember enough to do a full recap, but here's what I remember...

JVG was by far the funniest. He was the best roaster, AND the best toaster.

    JVG's jokes:

He congratulated Yao on another great "half season" !

He said they were going to change Yao's number to 5½ because he only plays half the games

He said he wished the kung fu guys (who put on a display earlier in the evening) were around when he was coaching to scare Yao into playing pick and roll defense

He said Yao speaks great English until you start asking him to get into a defensive stance, and then he doesn't understand English very well

He said he coached two great centers in Yao and Deke, but couldn't understand either of them :D

He also compared himself to Del Harris (who was there), saying that Del still had his hair and won a playoff series with the Rockets!

When looking out into the audience, JVG said he recognized a lot of people...there were the ones screaming "You suck!" at him after the game 7 loss last year...so he thanked them for their support.

JVG also made a light joke about Calvin...hopefully this means things are better between them

Obviously, the presentation is big part of it, and JVG delivered these in his deadpan style.

Del Harris was kind of bad, with some jokes about Chinese culture. I think Del had a couple of good roasts of Calvin though, and then asked "who are we roasting here?"

Del Harris said that Calvin liked to shoot so much, one game he was real hot and Rudy faked a pass to him and Calvin shot it anyway! :D

Clyde did not do any roasting. He wasn't that great. Yao's agent, Bill Duffy, had a couple of good stories. Only Bobby Jax and Deke were there from the Rockets team :(

Hopefully they will post a podcast or something.

Unfortunately, it's not on the website yet, unless I just couldn't find it. I suppose those of us not in Houston will have to be patient. Damn.
