The title is self-explanatory, and somewhat meaningless, in that the Rockets will not trade Yao. Aside from that, I wanted to pose the question to the fans here on this site to see what you think would be an appropriate return if Yao were to be traded. Again, I would like to here your responses to gauge Yao's value according to some of the most diehard Rockets fans. Thanks
Just talking theory of course, but you could probably gut a number of teams, especially Golden State. From a dollars and ticket-selling standpoint, many teams would give just about any player on their roster. I'm guessing anyhow. All moot though since the Rockets aren't trading Yao.
Yao's Market Value is quite high.. he's a tremendous player and borderline franchise .. right now his stock has taken a hit so has TMacs and I think other teams looking at how SF3 fared outside of Houston will look at that. Yao would be traded for almost any player except. Lebron TDuncan KGarnett and maybe DNowitski the way he is playing right now. remember Yao is still young and just beginning to tap into his potential.. J
Being specific, what player or players would you like to see in return for Yao; with respect to deals that would equate monetarily.
I started thinking about this about the third time a smaller player went over Yao (our “man” in the middle) for an offensive rebound. I would think you could look to the west cost for a trading partner. We need to find someone who would like the marketing value of and would over pay for the privilege of having the softest center in the league. We should also look to move our two redundant power forwards. We need to get picks back to get younger overall. So, something like this. Yao, Mo and Juan for Clippers: Brand, (others to make salary work out) and 2 picks Lakers: Odem, (others to make salary work out) and 2 picks Trailblazers: Randolph, Ratliff (others to make salary work out) and 2 picks I will let the board salary cap experts figure out who would work best for the numbers. Basically trade an All Star Center for an All Star “big”, move some of our dead wood, get picks back. The Clippers is the most appealing deal. Brand is great and the picks should be good.
IF Yao HAD to be traded, I would go to the clips, and ask for Brand, Kaman, Wilcox, and Simmons. I would also make them take a bad contract, but I would give them the TE and a future first. Kaman/Wilcox/Deke Brand/Wilcox Simmons/JJ T-mac/JJ Sura/somebody acquired via trade I don't know though, I think Yao is going to put it together and be awesome in the not too distant future.
People in the league can see that JVG has no clue on how to utilize Yao. His value is still high in that most years he would still be the number 1 pick. DD
I agree, his value seems to be down right now because he's not doing too well, but I think most people know in the right situation Yao would probably be doing much better. The way things are going right now I wouldn't mind that Clippers deal at all, I'm a big fan of Brand and who knows what those 2 picks might be like. I'd probably do that deal right now, especially if it takes off 1, or even both, of our overpaid/underachieving PF's. So to answer the original question, right now I think his market value is very high because, like someone earlier said, no matter where he goes he's going to put people in the seats. And, like I stated earlier he'll probably do much better in a different situation. Pugs
I'd trade him if we could get a legit star in return. Though I only think there are about 5 or 6 legit stars in the NBA. Right now Yao is Rik Smits. It's 50/50 if he will ever develop enough athleticism or endurance to be a star.
Like everyone said...his market value is going far beyond his playing value at the moment. It would be to only drive ticket sales and jersey and other types of sales that a team would be looking to deal tons of players for him.
