This year, Yao's impact on Rockets is much greater than last year, even when he doesn't score much or not shooting well.

Tonights game, a night Tmac has a great game:

Tmac and Yao both on the court: Rockets +21
Tmac on the court, no Yao: +0
Yao on the court, no Tmac: +2
Tmac and Yao both on the bench: -5

Overall, Yao on the court, Rockets +23; off the court: Rockets -5.
Tmac on the court, Rockets +21, off the court: Rockets -3.

It's been like that so far this season, Yao has the best +/- on Rockets, but people rarely noticed it beacuse of losing. Tmac is right on target: "Yao does so many things you don't even understand."

    Trade Yao, huh?

His impact is so big that Rockets were 0-8 w/o T-mac. Enough said.

You didn't get my point, did you? You really think Tmac would get much better results without Yao?

Numbers show Rockets can only be succesful with both players on the floor. Tmac is more than likely to suffer as much as Yao with current role players if Yao is injured.

Tmac is also familiar with long losing streaks (i.e. during his stay with orlando). The 0-8 stat with regards to Yao needs to be looked at with some sort of prespective, not on tis own. With that being said, I agree with the thread starter...we do need both of them.

    T-Mac was 0-19 without Yao. :D

Did you guys see Yao passing from the high post at 10:11 left in the second qtr? That was a sweet alley oop pass to T-Mac and two easy points. I hope Yao does it more. Sometimes when Yao has the ball in/near the high post the other players just stand there. Please create some off the ball movement and utilized Yao's passing JVG.

Don't want to harp on you or anything but have you seen our roster lately??? I doubt Hakeem or even Jordan would have done substantially better.

Damn dragon you don't have to be so ignorant about the subject. The thread simply implies that Yao boost the team up a lot. those 0-8 would are most of the time close losses. Without yao, they'd be blowout losses. Don't say a loss is still a loss. By putting yao on the court, all you have to do is add some more talent and you have a winning team. Take yao out and you need A LOT of talent to win. Simply that.

Maybe it was because his teammates were shooting 30%--

Yao had a nice pass to JHo also. It was almost a touch pass for an open jumper that JHo actually made. Yao's passing is a part of his game the Rockets almost never use. When he does make the sweet pass it always reminds me of his rookie year when he played more free flowing.

Yes, I still want to trade Yao for Odom and Shasha of the Laker since they will make T-Mac and the team even better then Yao on the floor.

I don't know if anyone noticed in the game last night, but it seemed like JVG let Yao operate more at the top of the key, resulting in some sharp passing (mostly to McGrady who switched roles with Yao and played the post-up game) and someone scoring.

From what I saw last night, I am starting to believe that Yao and the team would benefit from having him play more away from the basket when the defense inside doesn't allow him too much room to operate. Just a thought and I wouldn't be surprised if JVG noticed that and let Yao play more freely.

BTW, isn't this team built around two star players and a bunch of spot-up shooters? We got the two stars part down (hopefully health won't be an issue in the future again), and we definitely still have ways to go as far as the second part of that equation is concerned (we undoubtedly will shuffle the backcourt if not during this season, it will be in the off season).

Still, in the short term, this team is one SG such as Jalen Rose away from being an elite team. I hope that becomes a reality sooner than later.

You know some of you guys are too much. The only way to prove to you Yao's value to this team is to have him get hurt for a couple weeks and the Rox have to play without him. Can you imagine? Tmac running around doubled all over the floor except now he's got our 18% guards to throw the ball to and slow, fumbelina Deke to throw it to who does not have one fifth the offensive savvy of Yao. Our margin of defeat goes up significantly. Why can't you guys comprehend that? Yao's giving us 19 ppg while he was being tripled. They don't have to triple Deke. Just let him shoot it.

I don't want to sacrifice team success and Yao's health to prove anything to some fans. When was the last time you see anyone changed anyone's mind set on a bbs, or better to say when was the last time you saw anyone admit he/she/you/me was wrong? Just let it go. Someone wants to trade Yao for Mihm? It won't happen, just let him be.

Compelling assertion. You could have strengthened your case by accusing him of using "fuzzy math." As others have pointed out, T-Mac went on long losing streaks with Orlanda too, and that was in the Leastern Conference.

Yes, they certainly are freeing things up for Mamba and company... There's not a GM in the league that would trade Yao for Odom.

even though there's at least one GM in the league that would trade Shaq for Odom.
