    it seems Yao uses hook shot a little more often, that is nice;

    and in recent 2 game, Yao started shifting the ball from right to his left hand to lay up. is this some sort of new move? he did it in the game vs. spurs too, last nite he did it again when took to Shaq.

    his mid to long range jumper is not always on though.

    Heck, early last year he was shooting hooks with his left on occasion.

    I think Yao can go left with the best of the big men, but I think the coaches don't really like to see that.

    Actually from the games ive seen (which is all of them) I see Yao using his right hand a lot in situations where he should use his left...I remember a situation (i think it was against the spurs) where he tried to dunk with his right hand on the left side and got fouled. If he wouldve used his left he wouldve gotten an AND 1.

    Mayve its just for layups and dunks, but there have definitely been a number of cases where i have been like "why didnt he use his left"

    Last night he got fouled on a play by shaq and threw up a double clutch layup...where he switched from hisleft to his right hand after he got fouled. The shot missed but it came close....

    I noticed that too. it is probably more mental than skill. Whether the long range J fall depends on whether he has a good start.

    You are right of course ... but you don't see many players, especially big men, who are good with their off-hand.

    Some big men can't even shoot with their dominant hand! ;)

    Shouldn't that be a foul on Shaq for pushing?

    In the first pic, Shaq is flatfooted. In the second pic, Yao is jumping to contest Shaq.

    Shaq simply didn't jump to contest the hook. the release point is not that high and i think it's definitely within Shaq's reach.

    I always wonder why Yao doesn't utilize his left hand hook shot more. on the left block, instead of turning to baseline for a fadeaway and having the defender draped all over him, why not turn to baseline, launch the hook with his left hand and use his right hand to keep the defender away from him.
