I translated them by hand. Machine translation is freaking stupid. Yao's dad return from USA : Yao Ming is extremely tired in NBA (Translator's Note: there is a word "Yao Ming" in Chinese that translate to "Kill; drive sb. to death; extremely" ) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://sports.sina.com.cn on December 10th, 2002 15:14 New People's Daily Although sounds a little to like " YaoMing (kill) " -- in the Compaq center, more than 10000 fan yell with one voice " Yao Ming " the name, lets Yao ZhiYuan feel very proud. Modest y is a Chinese virtual. Even if Yao Ming were not his son, he would also cheer for him. "Yao clearly adapts to NBA faster than we expected." Reporter said. Ming's dad nodded, "Originally, we thought it would take him about half a year to adapt to NBA . Now, he is ahead of the schedule." "In just 50 days, he has already make Barkley kiss the donkey." " Ha ha, I do not know how the Chinese fans think about this, but in USA , everybody is joking about it, includes Barkley himself. He did not think this is a very humiliating matter. It is all about show." It has been 10 days since he returned. Whereever Yao Zhiyuan went, people would shake his hands as if they were shaking Yao Ming's hand, and say: "Yao Ming is doing great!" "Actually, I think it is not good for Ming to adapt so easily." Last night, Yao Zhiyuan said in the telephone: " Some skills are driven by presure, while other takes time. Ming played well recently. His coach gave him the oppurtunity. However, it looks like the coach has decided to put lots of responsibilities on Ming's shoulder. The Rockets, after all, is not the Shanghai Sharks. NBA also is at much higher-level than the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association). Ming's recent success is partially due to his hard-trying, and partially due to the opponents' unfamiliarity of Ming " Yao Ming has made double-double in 3 consequtive games. Yao Zhiyuan joked: "If Ming does not get 10 points in the next game, will you be disappointed? " "Actually, his body is overloaded. Back-to-back games. Home games and road games. Sometimes you play a road game, and need to fly home and play the next day. " Yao Zhiyuan feels the pain of Ming. "Ming always has high expectation for himsefl. Everyday he goes to gym one hour earlier. He got really tired in las few days. He would just go straight to bed when he returned. Endurance takes time to build." Indeed, in several recent games, when teammates initiate an fastbreak, Ming could not catch up. He was really tired. In my opinion, Yao Zhiyuan wanted the fans to know that Ming is tired, but he kept trying. Please be has patience in him when he is not performing well. After all, it is just about 50 days since Ming joined NBA.
Yeah thx, gd job. Loved the article. Gives us somewhat of an objective view into what Yao is facing and an insight into his mindset.
When do you guys think Yao will hit the infamous "Rookie Wall" given the fact hre really has not had any rest in 2 years? I actually hope he hits it now then climbs back out of it by Feb this will give the team to adjust and not rely so much on his scoring but passing/rebounding instead. It will force other ways for the team to develop.
Great to see what's being reported back to China from the insider position of Yao's dad about Yao's progress, and just as important, about his lack of stamina. Maybe, just maybe, this will help lead to Chinese authorities cutting back on his offseason obligations so he can get some much needed rest and perhaps some offseason NBA work instead. I think they'd be much better off, for the Olympics and beyond, if they'd let Yao have this next offseason totally free for rest and development.
"Indeed, in several recent games, when teammates initiate an fastbreak, Ming could not catch up. He was really tired. " I've definitely noted this. Before he was one of the first guys down the court on the break. Now even in medium speed transition, he's jogging down the court. He's obviously exhausted. Add to that the fact that he's expected to play intenrational ball after the season and he very well might get too run down to even be close to productive very soon
To both you and Tom Archer, I'm gonna put this in my sig one of these days if I have to keep sayin this. Back in Oct. there was a thread about the off season commitments, and we did the research to check it out. Here is what we came up with: Thats just a recap...the original thread is here Keep in mind that this is the best info we could come up with, and noone has ever been able to disprove it. If someone can disprove what we came up with, I'll gladly admit I was wrong.
I have a feeling Yao Ming wont hit a rookie wall like other players at least not in the same way... I think Yao Ming will get tired yes and be tired but an athletic body GAINS endurence as time goes on not looses it... he said himself he is not used to the pace of the game.. and his mins have increased dramaticly over the last few weeks... so give the kid a chance to get his bball legs under him... I just think Yao Ming is one of those special players that comes along once every 10-20 years that changes the game of basketball... While he may not be able to get double doubles everynight I do think he will be a presence and a force that teams will have to adjust to no matter what... so if the otehr teams focus on him more the rest of our team will score more and so the teams will have to focus on them more ect... thats the way it goes. I just don't think he will fall from the out put level he is at now
well i think the nba players WILL figure him out and adjust accordingly on defense. right now Yao is slicing through the middle for easy rebounds, nobody is even trying to box him out. His offense is another matter, being 7'5 has it's advantages and I think he'll only get better there. As nba players adjust and leap up to block his shots, he'll pump fake and drive or get fouled more. I really worry about his defense. Early on, players would just take it to the hole with no worry and Ming would just stay off the or slap em in the arm. Now he's getting down under and changing shots. i think lately, players have become a little scared of him down low and have stayed away from driving. I think they'll get back to this and re-intimidate Yao. That is when the wall will hit. Yao will get 8ppg, 3 to 4 rebounds a game for awhile until he re-asserts himself down low. Now I hope this never happens and it may not, but if it does, it's because of the pattern above.
