There's a highlight of Carmelo dunking over Yao under the Southwest Airlines High Flyer of the Week video clip. Just FYI.
respect has to be earned. i have no problem with seeing yao get posterized because it happens. hype is great, but it can also be used against you. carmelo has hype AND hes performing at a high level, helping his team to achieve goals that we all would have LAUGHED at last offseason.
Potential rookie of the year on last year's potential rookie of the year. The NBA eats that kinda thing up. Last year's cream of the crop vs. this year's cream of the crop.
So what's the excitement? If you don't want to be posterized, just stand around like a lazy bum without attempting to block.
Or you could stand around pretending to attempt to block and not be a lazy bum (ahem - Yao) and end up in lots of posters.
exactly it was a freakin alley oop. God so you want your team's players standing around just watching everything? It wasn't straight up, Yao tried to block it. Big ****ing whoop. Oh yes lets pretend and be fake
Why would he just pretend? If he had the right timing, he would have blocked it and Camelo would land like a meteor, requiring him to spend the next 2 months in injury list. I would rather he making the attempt even if he's too late than those other assholes in nba who just stand around in order to save face.
Yao came from the weak side to help out his teammate in that play; but a little bit too late. Who was the Rocket PF got beaten by C. Antony at the time?
Exactly. I'm tired of people bring up that softness BS. Eddy Curry and Amare are not soft. Where are they now? In the freaking injured list. As they say, " you're no good to the cause if you're dead". Even if they are healthy, I don't see their stats are way better than Yao's.
Oh, I agree with you CompGeek...I just see that video and it reminds me of too many of Yao's weeknesses that are beginning to get on my nerves. I've never been one to criticize any Rocket much, but Yao's ill-timed efforts and bad positioning/posturing at rebounding and general defense are getting about as aggravating as Moochie's dribbling. Only because I know he can do better though.
I doubt that there has been one player (since dunking became the norm) that hasn't been dunked on. In the words of the immortal Derrick Coleman - "Whoop-de-damn-do."
Not as aggravating as watching Francis dribbling and not wanting to pass the ball and turn the ball over in an ill-fated drive right into 3 defenders.
No, see I've been watching Francis do his little stupid things for twice as long as I've been watching Yao's idiosyncrasies, so I've actually become immune to his.
first off, 'dunked on' is a phrase too casually thrown around these days... Yao came to help, and was not in time...it was not anybody's fault, well maybe melo's defender, but sometimes help d works sometimes it doesn't... it wasn't like, as some astute member pointed out above that melo beat yao one on one...no chance... this is the fate of shotblocker or center of the team, they will always get it sometimes...this is the nature of the nba...the advantage is in favour of the offense, in timely possessions, if an offensive player wants to take it hard to the rim, there are times when nothing can be done...guards, 2's and 3's don't often get dunked on because they ain't manning the base, the are not holding the fort... so please, diss yao because he's sometimes clumsy, or doesn't get enough rebounds, but dont diss him for doing the job that no one wants and thats protecting the rim ill take a center who lays their neck on the line everytime, anyday...they are what defenses are built upon...who cares about face...in this world of espn highlights, the 'dunked on' is overly glorified... by the way, yao dunked on amare at least 3 times last year, well it would have been characterized as 'dunked on', but amare saw yao coming and ran away like a p***y...
Anyone remember when Vince Carter came to Houston for an NBC game? I believe it was the last play of the game. It was a tie, and Shandon Andersen was guarding Vince. Vince took it baseline and dunked with both hands right in front of Hakeem without Hakeem even getting up to try to block the shot. You could tell at that point that Hakeem was done. The old Hakeem would have at least tried to go up for an attempt. Remember when Kevin Johnson dunked the ball right in Hakeem's face in the playoffs. That was a dunk poster if I ever saw one, but Hakeem still tried to block the shot. Yao is going to get dunked on a lot in his career. When Yao stops going up to block the shot is when Rocket fans should worry.
The only time ive acutally seen yao get dunked on full facial was by shaq and finley. Even the kobe dunk that they kept on repeating yao had gotten there late for the block.
