Maybe. At least. Keep an eye on the situation with North Korea.Jiang left, but he was in close contact with Kim. Yao would be the perfect trump card. The fact that the Chinese are going to run the poor guy into the ground yet again all summer long in their pathetic excuse of a basketball league won't be of any help either. Yao could delare asylum, but he would have to kiss his family goodbye. They would be as good as dead. The guy needs to stay here, bulk up & work on his game. He's not going to improve by playing around a bunch of 5'3" ping-pong champions. It was purely evident when Yao hit the wall about 20-25 games ago that the NBA season had finally taken its toll. China is consistently at the top of Human Rights violations & they would most likely have no reservations in keeping the money the Rockets gave them & keeping Yao for good. They cannot be trusted. Just watch. After Iraq. When Bush wants statues of Kim Jong Il & Kim Il Sung to be torn down in Pyongyang, Yao will be as good as gone. So long, Great Wall!

Your sense of humor sucks as much as his does. You don't have much pride in being Chinese if you think snide comments about 5'3" ping-pong players are "funny". Nor would any informed self-respecting Chinese accept this pickup-driving, long-neck drinkin' redneck's characterization of China's human right situation.

I don't care if you physically are "from" Beijing, you're not really Chinese.

C'mon now. If Yao indeed goes back to China in the summer to play for CBA or the Chinese national team, it would be the same as him playing ball with Ping Pong player -- he will be tired as hell in the training camp and won't improve much if at all.

So basically I have to agree with you and Chinese government in order to be a real "Chinese"?

So much for the "this pickup-driving, long-neck drinkin' redneck's characterization of China's human right situation".

You know, I would like to think if something like that happens, we would be more worried about something other than baskeball, like maybe the end of the world as we know it.
