Why? Because he doesn't want to get fined (he even said that himself), it doesn't matter how much he gets paid, as long as the money will come out off his pocket, he will not risk his money to argue with refs or fight his hackers like Shaq. Don't blame him, he's just a typical shanghainese. Solution: Jeff should tell Yao to go for it if he has to get refs attentation in that way, most important! Rockets will pay the fines. I am serious! That's the only way you will see Yao Mean!
while were at it with generalizations, steve and jvg will never get along because one is black and the other is "the man"
That's just great, you figured all out about Shanghainese. Thank you for sharing this great prejudice to this board. Way to go. In fact, I didn't even want to discuss with you about the matter. But we are still on the rockets bbs, first of all, please don't overestimate the power of Yao getting a tech; second, it's his second year in NBA, I don't think he wants to put his team in difficult situation. When he said he didn't want to pay fine, too bad you didn't get his sacarcism. Third, the coach should try tp protect his players by taking the tech, like PJ, Pop, LB, etc. Finally, it's nothing wrong not to waste money, at least he's not wasting others' money either. Now you can go on with this bashing.
Have you ever seen Yao really argued with refs when he was robbed on the court? Yao joked about that on his own bbs and ask his fans to share the fines if he ever gets one. Of course, it's a joke. But knowing he is from shanghai, I believe there is some truth in it. I am not saying he is stingy, he may just think it's not worth it. Just my two cents.
Sorry, NO If I was Yao Ming, I would feel really offended by that, and maybe try to take a tech on him, or maybe even a flagrant foul?
The Rox have many problems, but I don't think Yao Ming's desire/ability to avoid technicals is one of them. I hate when players whine about calls -- or the lack thereof. Just play.
You said you would if you were Yao, but you are not Yao, right? All we know is that Yao said he didn't feel it's worth it to pay the fine for technical (according to rocketjf). Could it be just maybe, maybe that's exactly the true thought in Yao's mind? Btw, I don't think this has anything to do with Rockets' performance tonight. --daoshi
You just suck! That is what you deserve. Don't ever bring this kind of Shanghainese issue to this board! Don't you ever notice how stupid you F***ing idiot look like?
I....er...there are....whew....when, um...in....dolphins?....But how....you don't.....eh.....how on.....
I said I would do it against rocketjf. And I guess you know what I am talking about. I am just deeply saddened to see things like that not only happened in lots of Chinese bbs, but also here. I am just deeply deeply surprised. What's the purpose of that? But I can guess it's not intended to make the chinese community look better, coz it won't.
It's quite obvious that you've never played sports at any level if you think a player considers his monetary fine for what he does on the court. If a player thinks better of showing up a ref or getting a T, it's not because of financial reasons, it's because he doesn't want to put the team in a position of jsut giving away free points.
Somebody may not agree with this, but I think that all the great players whine to the refs (check that, you can also whine to the media and then pay a fine to the league like Shaq did a couple of weeks ago). Bottom line is that you have to get the refs' attention. They are just humans and they'll give you calls if you push them. I remember that Duncan never complained to the refs in his rookie year; now he's one of the biggest whiners in the NBA.
Apparently Yao Mean is too mean to pay a fine. btw, is a fine tax-deductible? As a side note, I read in China Daily published in LA area that Yao Ming sent a $20,000 note to a kid in China. The kid was in hospital and was a Yao Ming fan and his family could not pay the medical bills. Yao Ming talked to him over phone since talking to Yao in person was the kid's biggest wish. Unfortunately the kid could not be cured and died weeks ago. I do not think many people know this since Yao Ming does not want this widely known.
