Why do we care if Yao get better stats as long as the Rockets play the right way and WIN!

Yao getting good stats doesn't necessary mean the team is playing better. Remember his career high score against the Dallars? The Rockets lost that game.

also on my fantasy bball team.

his stats do matter because the rockets are not likely to go anywhere if he's not a superstar. if yao puts up 20/10 consistently we're probably more likely to win. he's one of our franchise player and if you're franchise players aren't producing you're going to be in trouble.

Stats matter because the entire league is obsessed with stats.

Stats matters. Yao's in particular highly correlated to the Rox wins and losses. It also ties with Yao's next contract.

Someone said before that the manegement always tell the players to sacrify their individual games for the good of the team, but when the contract time comes, they all point to the stats.

So yes, the stats do matters to the players because they need that for their next contract, but do we really care about it as a fan (don't count those fantasy league fans:D )? Basketball is a game of mismatch, and todays team are so sophiscated, they always make quick adjustment next time around. Teams will find ways to count Yao & the Rockets' new style, Yao will be struggling from time to time, and hopefully fight back & become better from that process. I can see that Yao will have better stats in a couple years, but 2nd half of this season? I'm not so sure. His stamina will be a problem in the coming 2nd half.

I predicted 17,9,2,2 before the season. So far he is very close to that so I am pleased.

When it comes to Yao and his future with the Rockets...stats dont really matter that much.

As long as he is still a defensive presence and a big offensive threat...the Rockets will give him whatever he wants...as long as he keeps improving...no one in the organization will even think twice about offering him the most they can...period.

Now, that doesnt really mean that stats are not important to a degree...since they reflect his soon to be consistent domination over other teams..
Just saying that they arent the end-all be-all factor in deciding the size of the contract he will be offered..

Unless he regresses or shows himself to not be a player that you can depend on...his size and skills alone will ensure the Rockets will stick by him for as long as he wants to play in the NBA.

They have made some questionable moves from time to time...but Les and CD are not soo stupid as to allow Yao to get away for as long as he wants to play in Houston.

I personally hope to see him consistently average 25/13/3
as long as he can do that...and we still have at least two other players able to average 15-20...we will be in good shape.

    17 pts/ 9 rebs/ 2 / 2 is respectable for a second year player but these 20/10 games are really spoiling me.

Well its nice to see... It feels like we win every game Yao scores 20 in. Can anyone back this up? if not oh well it appears that way IMO.

People dont give Yao enough credit for a solid 2nd year already the focus of every teams defensive strategy and commanding double/ triple teams. As Yao goes we go.. our team seems to live and die by how Yao is playing on the floor..

16 pts/ 9.2 rebs while averaging 20/ 10 lately... wow. who knows how his stats will end up if Yao can keep this up..

I don't particuarly care what he gets as long as we win, and more importantly win the right way, but I do agree that his success is one of the most important determining factors over whether we're going to make the playoffs, and how deep we go if we do. 20/10 would be nice though. :D

I'd like to see him average 28/12, too. After all, Yao is my favorite Rocket:D. But given the players the Rockets have, it's not realistic for him to achieve that number.

Steve is not playing up to his MAX status right now. When he does, he'll provide 20+ a game easily; Mobley will average ~15 a game; add Mo, JJ into the equation, there just won't be enough shots for Yao to get that average.

I agree with you that the Rockets will do everything to keep Yao from leaving, but it's entirely depends on what Yao wants, and Yao's decision will largely based on how the team will do this season, next season, and how he will be used.

Man, I really excited if Steve can co-exist with Yao, AND play up to his MAX potential. I truly believe these duo CAN be as good as the LA duo if not better because of Yao's versatility.
