Yao & weight

How much does Yao Ming need to bulk up?

    OK, so we've gotten a better look (albeit on TV reports) at Yao Ming in Rockets gear.

    I personally don't think he'll have many or any injury problems, he has a fantastic base to hold up that big frame.

    Actually, everyone compares him to Rik Smits, but physically he looks closer to Mutumbo. Mutumbo (who has been relatively injury-free) is leggy with a short torso, Smits (back & foot problems) has more of a longer torso.

    Does Yao Ming really need to gain weight, as so many of the 'experts' claim?

    I say 15lbs max in the upper body.

    I don't think he'll have any foot or knee problems, but as with all giants, you have to worry about his back.
