as far as i remember, Yao Ming's emergence started in mid December last year. By far, his performance vs, the lakers is his worst game since then. He seems totally intimidated against Shaq and for the first time ever, was clearly the missing factor in that game....

As far as the Shaq vs. Yao thing goes, its not even close..... its all about the hype and the media.....As much as I love Yao Ming's game, this performance was just terrible tonite......

the spurs are next...OUCH!!!!!

Yao is clearly not on Shaqs level right now. Shaq dominated down the fourth quarter yao didnt have a chance. The real question is will Yao ever be as good as Shaq right now? Its going to be pretty tough if he dosent get tough

I agree that yao played like crap tonight. What should we double team when we CLEARLY knew that cato and yao coundnt defend shaq one on one? Why didnt we just make some adjustment?

Since Mr. Mean be the head coach , Yao's performance was straight down.

He only had one good game in last 6 games.

I dont know it is good for Rox or not.

The ref never called an offensive 3-sec foul tonight. If you allow Shaq to stay in the paint as long as he likes, he is going to muscle in every time and make the shot. I would have complained to the refs. It was not only Shaq, Mark as well.

Other teams have prepared for Yao all season. You see them come in and front him, double or triple team him as soon as he touches the ball.

Why are the Rockets not capable of having a game plan on how to defend a guy like Shaq? Its like we are not prepared to play these teams or players. It all comes down to one thing...Poor coaching.

No excuses for Yao. A couple more performance like that, "trade Yao for B. Miller" threads will starting to pop up.

Probably the worst performance I've seen from Yao on the national TV. He's freaking slow and being schooled by Shaq the whole game. And geez, be a man and attack the basket!!

On the other hand, the Rox played well tonight. I guess the difference between the 2 centers are just too much to pull out a win here.

He had an off game. It happens to when you play Shaq who's getting back into good shape. Yao's shots weren't falling, but we did have good contributions from MoTay and Rice.

uh, did you watch the game tonight???? they did call 3 secs on shaq, once. and i think 1 or 2 more times on the lakers....... and poor coaching didnt loose this game so get off the coaching crutch. we lost by 3 not 30. and if the refs arent going to call fouls that doesnt help us either.

That's because Mr. Mean didn't have nearly faith in Yao as Rudy. Mr. Mean didn't give as much playing time and run as many plays that's suitable for Yao. Yao's crap against Lakers no excuse but you can clearly see Rudy knew how to use Yao way better than Mr. Mean in the last 6 games.

Yao Ming was nothing but a jump shooter today. And a bad one at that.

And thats no fault but his own, I just watched the game and I couldn't handle him shooting jumper after jumper. He needs to take a couple dribbles and shoot a hook or just try to go straight up. He is too afraid of contact it seems (or it could be the fact that he is playing Shaq, that would be understandable) Just needs to be more agressive in taking the ball to the hoop...

    Mix it up Yao.

Yao put one of the best moves I've ever seen put on Shaq (with the exception of Hakeem) tonight...unfortuneatly he missed the shot then was called for offensive goaltending.

Yao needs to hit the training room this summer and stay there until the summer is over....be aggressive like Cato, learn from this game and move on....he needs to learn to attack the basket more.I think yao is way over anxious tonight,he needs to calm down when taking his shots.Other players played really well tonight with the exception of yao...that sucks!

How is Shaq gettin a 3 seconds and other Lakers gettin called for 3 seconds us playing good defense on Shaq? I'm saying, it is obvious other teams have a game plan on how to guard Yao. It didnt seem like we had a plan to stop Shaq tonight.

This is Yao first year in the league. He will have better days ahead of him. Shaq is the man right now but Yao will someday be doing what Shaq did to him right back at Shaq. When Shaq enter the league he wasn't as huge as he is now. Once Yao develops his upper body look out!!! :D

Amare won a few votes tonight for Rookie of the Year.

Monday can be counted as a day's rest for Yao since he only played 20 minutes of the Clippers game. Yao needs to stop playing like sh-t after a long rest.

If this game doesn't motivate Yao to work hard in the off-season. I don't know what will.

Before I join the ranks of the "unperturbed by how the rest of the season goes" I'd like to make one observation.

How many times will Yao face Shaq in crunch time over the remainder of Shaq's career? 15, 20x maybe?
Coach Mean - Yao must be in there - game winning dunk, getting manhandled or otherwise. He'll go to school regardless. Who's going to butter the Rocket's bread for the next 10 years? The rookie hook with the game on the line shouldn't have happened.

OK, Rockets, do your worst, the rest of the season's a happy pill to me.
