Chinese National Team vs. Mavs Summer League Team.

We get a chance to see yao's conditioning and compare him side by side to Pavel. Also will be the first time I get to see Yi Jianlian play live!

I will be very curious to watch Yi Jianlian play. I don't understand why he is so hyped as a sure fire top 5 pick in 2 years. Even Yao is kissing his rear right now, it does not make sense.

Yi could be a KG clone.

Give me a break. Howard is a KG clone. Now Yi could be a KG clone. I would rather take Wayen Simien over these overhyped 18 year old.

BTW, what is Darko doing right now? I won't be breaking my finger shooting some jumpers and I am not even a professional baller.

I so wish the season had started. Damn, 4 more months. Why must they have off-season. :D
God please forbid there would be a lock-out this season.

They said that about Kwame and Tyson too. Those guys were hyped. Dwight Howard was hyped. Darko was hyped.

I don't see why you have any trouble understanding why Yi is being hyped. Part of a scout's job is to project potential.

Darko never played on adult team in Europe. So he was drafted purely based on potential. Yi is already starting for his Chinese championship team (although not regularly). He is projected to be 1st or 2nd pick in different 2006 mock drafts. He is long and athletic and has good shooting touch. Harris said he can fly.

James was hyped more than anyone in the history. Yao was hyped. Heck, KG himself was hyped before he was drafted.

Hype doesn't necesarily spell death sentense for anyone. If they are good, they are good. Hype doesn't have anything to do with it.

I've seen Yi play, and my friend, he's no KG... at least not yet. He's very raw and has a very limited array of offensive moves, but does have tremendous athleticism...picture someone with TD's body but w/ serious hops and better body control.

Might be wise for you to wait to see the fellow play b4 you past judgement on him. You were probably one of the few who were against drafting Yao. Has Yao dissapoint yet? No! so shut you pie-hole.

P.S. Yao deserves all the credit for the Rockets landing T-Mac. Not Carroll Dawson, JVG or Les.

Yao was hyped before the draft for sure. But there were more doubters about him than believers. Most people believe that he was a project that might pan out in 4-5 years. Even his most admant supporter, Bill Walton, did not expect him to be this good two years ago.

Dicky V. still owns Rockets fans a serious apology for calling Yao a bust, disaster waiting to happen. If we had selected Jay over Yao, we will be the laughing stock of the league for years to come.

I remember the majority of the board members were against drafting Yao before his US workout before the draft.

I had my doubts at that time, but were definitely in favor of Yao over Jay.

Actually Larry Brown predicted after seeing Yao in the 2000 Olympics that "in four years he (Yao) will change the way basketball is played.", but that hasn't really happened. ;)
