Stoudemire says Yao is "athletic and versatile." Yao says Stoudemire is "very fast and has great jumping ability." Yao got the best of Wednesday's matchup, scoring 12 points to go with 12 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, one steal and no turnovers. Stoudemire posted 11 points and three boards and turned the ball over twice. The Rockets won the contest 107-89. Amare is not even in the same league with Yao, now and ever. if amare has to face the same defence(double/triple teamed) yao has do you seriously think he would be able to put up the same numbers? here are some more meaningful stat showing how complete a player they are: Efficiency per 48 min: Yao: 30.85 (8th) Amare: not ranked (not even in the top 50)
It smells like there will be another co-rookie of the year handed out this year barring another visit to the wall by either candidate.
You call that stat meaningful? I mean, Arvydas Sabonis is #7, Shawn Bradley is #18, Tyson Chandler is #34, while Ray Allen is #40, Steve Francis is #41, and Stephon Marbury is #48. If you're going to find a stat that shows Yao to be better than Amare, I think you could dig up something better than that silly one.
When we judge players, can we just look at their games and see their overall impact/contribution in the game to judge them rather not throwing up some stats like they mean everything? I bet that's the key difference between ignorant sportwriters and intelligent scouts. Sportwriters just look at the stat sheets. Scouts watch players play the games to judge them.

I think OverRRated actually meant that Yao's stats is affected by his slow start due to missing the training camp etc. so Yao could easily have had better stats if not for his poor first month which is hardly his own fault.
Go argue Yao vs Amare with all the stats at: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&postid=761225#post761225
Thanks for clearly it up Jonhty. I do think that Yao is much more skilled, and we wouldn't even be having this dicussion if we actually used him on a consistent basis.
Hey, now there's a good idea. Comparing these 2's stats now to me is meaningless. I don't care who wins ROY. I want to see who wins championships. ... and there is already a huge thread discussing this on the first page. There's no sense in having two huge, bickering threads talking about the same thing. ... Oh, and Yao is better... so there.
