I don't need to explain what Yao can do. Notice when Yao took a rest in the bench, the Rockets were confused on offense with too much dribbling. But when Yao came back in the game, the whole game changes. I don't see another center other than Shaq can do this. Anyone want to disagree with this topic?
nope i agree. yao is the rockets flow the plays are gonna be designed to go threw him. he can fake a shot and pass off the double team or shoot a fadeaway or hook shot
I have to disagree. I still think he ranks below both Shaq and (even though I can't stand him) Vlade.
The same Vlade he just schooled a week ago? The same Vlade, when compared to Yao's averages since the adjustment of the first couple of weeks, averages 8 less points, 5 less rebounds, and almost 2 less blocks? The same Vlade that shoots 45% from the field? There's absolutely no comparison between Yao and Vlade.
read the other post people the YAO and SHAQ (comparison) yao is the BEST center in the league. why? shaq bullies his way to the rim with a range of 8 feet. yao has a 20 foot range with creative shots and good passes. not shaq he is just fat and stupid. hey guys if we all weighed 355 pounds and were 7'1 we could all play in the nba! ok some of it is skill no doubt but we all know the truth. YAO IS THE PRESENT AND FUTURE GO ROX!
If you are talking about Divac at his prime, you might have a case. I think the original post was talking about current Divac, who can only play about 20 good minutes. There is no way he is better than Yao.
The current Divac is playing as good as he ever has and he can play a whole game. But I agree Yao is #2 now and is positively next.
Nap! He may be smarter, performed better flopper, but he's clearly past his prime! Check out his stats this year and his career... MPG FG% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG 02-03 31.8 .450 .747 7.20 4.0 1.00 1.27 10.3 Career 30.3 .498 .694 8.60 3.0 1.19 1.51 12.2
Yao is the most talented overall and may ultimatly be the best ever at the position. However I must agree with Htown, Vlade is more savvy with Championship experience.
Vlade still has plenty more trick's in his arsenal. He's not really the scorer on the team. He's just the guy that creates with his great passing skills. He's also one of the leagues best floppers.
Just to prove my point, here is a post from the Indy fan... "I don't so much mind the Yao hype because he really is that good. Unlike the Shaq hype, where he's just a monster mowing people down because he can. If Shaq had even half the skills Yao does... " BTW, they don't think Brad Miller is a THUG!
Yao Ming is by far the best center already. Shaq's day is done -- his foot problems have brought him back to earth and his best days are behind him (literally and figuratively). He will continue to be a dominant center but he is damaged goods. As for Vlade, he is done -- Yao already showed him the door out to pasture.
Daoshi...I agree that Shaq gets away with murder at times but he's also fouled a lot more than the refs called. That guy is a referee's nightmare. Everyone complains about his brute strength and utter lack of skill and IMO, they are right. But the guy still changes games like no other. He actually does have some pretty good moves and has developed into a pretty good passer. Yao will be better than Shaq but not now. Now, if Yao had even half of Shaq's girth...
Yao may be the second best center right now but he could be third by the start of next year...when TIm Duncan finally plays his true position of center.
Yao does have some thing Shaq lacks, like fade away, FT... But you got be kidding saying 'If Shaq had even half the skills Yao does... ' Shaq is way quicker and more agile than Yao. He can crossover and finish a Jordan Type reverse layup which Yao would take a while to master, maybe forever.
Can't compare shaq's moves to jordan. The big guy makes everything looks ugly. That reverse layup look more like a one hand throw.
Uhhhh...Shaq can do a Jordan type reverse layup...the only move he imitates well is Merton Hank's chicken dance YOu wanna see agility...look back at ESPN's highlights. I'll even give you the link: www.espn.com
