Glad to see the big man's setting his goals high! http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story.asp?ID=135107&hubName=nba Associated Press 8/31/2005 10:26:00 AM SHANGHAI (AP) - It's lift-off time, says Yao Ming. The Houston Rockets centre says his on-court partnership with all-star forward Tracy McGrady could take the Rockets all the way to the championship next season. McGrady's arrival last season was an "extremely advantageous exchange for Houston," Yao said in an interview with Chinese newspaper Titan Sports published Wednesday. "Since this exchange, our team's gained renewed space to lift-off, and this space I think can take us all the way to the championship," Yao said. Yao and McGrady were the main force behind a Houston team that had an up-and-down season ending with the worst Game 7 defeat in NBA playoff history, a 40-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals. To make a serious title run - and truly become the NBA's new dynamic duo - the pair will need a lot more help from their teammates. The seven-foot-six Yao, who averaged 18.3 points and 8.4 rebounds during the 2004-2005 season, has been recovering from surgery to remove bone spurs from his left ankle. He plans to play for the Chinese national team at the Asian Championships in Qatar on Sept. 8-16 before returning to Houston later in the month. Yao led China to the Asian basketball championship in 2003.
