Well, looks like that initial report was wrong. Yao had a check up that went well but was not cleared to play in Pre-Olympic games.

Sweet. Keep him iced as long as possible. Playing in other bs tournaments for him to "gel" with his teammates is a waste. I want Yao out as long as possible. Just let the rust come off in practice, before the olympics.

I agree with you.. everyone involved should want Yao to be 100% before going on the court.

I admit that I don't keep up with all the Yao rehab stuff (mostly to keep from getting depressed) but I didn't know the Rockets had that kind of pull. I always thought it was his national team that had the final say in everything.

    Nice to know.

yao has the final say and he thinks the olympics is the most important so he wants to be 100% for that..

If he does go to the Olympics, I hope he comes off the bench.

I don't think he is 100% yet, if he does go all out in the Olympics, I don't think he should rush back to start season.

It might be good, if he doesn't play the first 4 or 5 weeks.

You're dreaming there. China can't muster enough offense without Yao to beat a Junior High team.

Obviously the final say is Yao's in the sense that as a human being he can ultimately choose whatever he wants, but in terms of being cleared to play contractually, it appears to be the Rockets decision. That's what I'm saying.

but if Rox med staff says Yao is 99% before olympics and advises Yao not to play I think Yao will decide to play..

I want Yao to play for his Country especially since the Olympics are in his Country this year but I am seeing this injury as some what of a blessing in disguise. If Yao is held to only play minimal minutes til the olympics then Great. Every summer The Chinese Olympic team pushes Yao to the limit then when he is done he runs right back to the Rockets and he has to be tired. You know in a few years Yao might not be able to play this much basketball and he might have to decide where he really wants to play. Yao has been hurt but he has also been giving his body a pretty good rest so I think he will have more energy when the 2008-2009 NBA Season kicks off ;)

Do not rush it, let Yao recover and be 100%. We don't wanna have him out again next season...

My hope is that the Rox doctors keep him out of this cup tourney, which is completely meaningless. If he's going to play in the Olympics fine but he can afford to miss out on this Stankovic thing.

This is why I believe Yao should have the 1st few weeks of the season off, the Spurs do it with their players throughout the season, Shaq does everywhere he goes.

Um...I'd agree with pop rocks. Without yao, you got what...wang? sun yue? oh, and yi jian lian whose also hurt?

please. no way would a team ever ask their best player to come off the bench, on the world stage like the olympics. So the more time we do get him off the court during our offseason, the better.

Oh, and for those who feel yao may sit out in the near future for team china, i highly doubt it. dude is like the michael jordan of basketball there. he's god. no way in hell would he ever sit/deny his obligation to his homeland while he's in the NBA.
