Yao should never ever attempt to take a charge...again.

In the interest of making this more then a one sentence rant, I'll list some reasons.

1-A 7'6, 320 pound guy who has had knee problems probably shouldn't be falling backwards on a regular basis.

2-Yao should be looking to block the shot, not get a charge called...percentage-wise, he's way more likely to get called for blocking fouls then in-the-air fouls since him taking a charge draws huge attention and it's just so weird seeing him do it that refs will more often then not feel obligated to call something. And that something is more likely to be a block then a charge.

3-Very often, Yao takes charges dangerously close to the restricted area due to his positioning.

4-In the event that there is a no-call when Yao falls, our best rebounder will be unable to do anything since he'll be sprawled on his back.

5-The Rockets have absolutely no shotblocking beyond Yao and 234242309 year old Deke and MAYBE Battier. Everyone else on the team is taking charges. It falls to Yao to block shots. If he stops doing that, then the Rockets defense will fail.

Yao never did this eariler in his career so I wonder why he's started doing it this season. It needs to stop. It only adds to his reputation of being a soft player not to mention all the other consequences associated with it.

I'm ok with him taking charges.

For me either go for the block or take the charge. Most of the time when he just tries to jump straight up, he'll get called for the foul. As far as injuries go, well, he can get injured for anything. Can't play scared. So far, I've yet to see him get hurt from taking a charge.

While I agree that a 7' 6" player shouldn't be taking charges. Shot blocking is all about instincts and quick reaction, I just don't think Yao has either of those traits. People assume that since he is 7'6" he should be swating everything within reach, that's just not one of Yao's abilities.

I agree, if he try to block the shot, he will be call for a foul. Just the way the NBA is ref now a days, you got to flop to get calls. Beside he can get injured from jumping and stepping on someones feet too.

Or injure one of our own players in practice doing so :p haha!

The less movement for Yao the better! I keed I keed. Great game by Yao, Artest, and Brooks.

I disagree. Yao needs to find ways to add to his defensive repertoire. You can say what you want but taking a charge here and there really just adds that much more to his game. Seems to be like he's getting the better end of the call.

if yao doesn't fall, he will be called for a foul, so I'd rather he attempt to take a charge

Yao should hammer the opposing player once in a while just to send the message that the paint belongs to him and him only. The only time he may take a charge is if the other guy is "bigger" than him. The only guy I know who matches this description is Shaq and he is not the player he once was.

He could do that by watching some film of the games involving the Utah Jazz that took place during Mark Eaton's playing days, and see just how he played defense.

Taking a charge is so chicken ****. Especially when you're a center. I don't know how many of you guys play basketball, but there is nothing quite like the feeling of sending someone's shot back. It sends the message that you shouldn't bring your game to the basket for a high percentage shot/layup. It leads to an intimadation factor that can help your cause.

It didn't start this season. A lot of players started emulating Battier after he was traded for.

I used to remember Yao did a much better job when it comes to shot-blocking. But in this season he was more than often called for a foul when he tried to block a shot. I guess some bad calls really changed his playstyle. I don't know whether it's just me or anyone else.

    Yao is a softie.

Honestly, I love Yao as a person, I want him to do well. I think he is a nice player, and the most effective center in the league. I sincerely hope we win a championship with him there.

However, I hate the way he plays. Some of it is due to the fact that the NBA has no idea how to officiate him, but he plays too awkwardly for my tastes. He does some things that drive me crazy (not dunking, taking charges, etc..) but, you have to live with those since he does other things so well.

I think his game is bland and most of the time extremely boring to watch. Frankly speaking, I'm not gonna lie when I say I look forward to the future and the possibility of an athletic talented post player on the Rockets.

That being said though, I love Yao Ming, and believe he has an amazing game. Its just not pretty, or conventional for that matter...
