because... 1) You are 7"6, when you fall you will only hurt yourself even more. 2) You are 7"6, you should be trying to block your opponent, block him out after, but not taking charges. 3) Didn't Deke told you the same thing?
1) This should go in the game thread 2) It's just a tendon tear 3) We still have a chance to win even without Yao...
It's just a tendon tear? You must be sarcastic! That would be a tremendous blow to this franchise if he just tore a tendon!
1) This is a general suggestion for the future, not necessarily related to tonight's game. 2) Where do you see the reference for his "injury" tonight? Again, this is general 3) Who said we can't win a game without Yao? Try to make some sense when you write.
Try and make sense when I write? I think you should check your sentence structure before you attack my comments. Last time I checked "[d]idn't Deke told" is not grammatically correct... This is a reactionary thread if I've ever seen one, but for your comfort I will pretend it isn't. Generally speaking, Yao will receive contact no matter how passive or aggressive he plays. To tell him to avoid contact is dumb. Look at this 24 minute precaution. Yao plays a limited number of minutes and yet still gets hurt tonight. Probability and possibility are not the same thing. Not taking charges will reduce the probability of Yao getting injured, but it will come no where close to eliminating the possibility. My basketball coach once said to me "football is not a contact sport, it's a collision sport... it's basketball that is a contact sport". Yao will always be in contact with the opposing team, reducing that contact turns him into a defensive liability and ultimately does little to reduce his risk of injury. Personally, I would take the gamble on gaining defense in place of keeping a healthy Yao.
Sorry to have your feelings hurt but what you just said has nothing to do with what I originally wrote. Yes Yao will receive contact no matter what, but he can definitely eliminate taking charges. This contact is unnecessary, especially for a big man. When was the last time the refs called charging when Yao took a charge? Does Shaq or Dwight ever take charges? Even you just said it, it would definitely eliminate risk of injury... Nothing against your basketball coach but is he trying to be captain obvious? Everybody knows that and basketball/football are totally different sports. Yao will continue to have contact throughout his career like any other basketball player, but instead of taking charges like girl, he should be making contacts when defending his player, blocking out, rebounding the ball etc. And btw, "last time I checked" this forum is not an online grammar school.
Playing defense by taking charges is basketball 101. To ask Yao to avoid the charge is to ask him not to play defense. We tried that with Tmac and it failed. As for reducing risk of injury, not playing Yao at all would completely reduce the risk of injury. Why not do that? Where do you draw the line? It seems quite arbitrary. Ultimately, reducing the risk does not eliminate it. Case in point, you have the highest probability of dieing at work, so you should quit your job tomorrow, right?... The logic is flawed at best. As for grammatical correctness: being grammatically correct is a goal we should all aspire to achieve. I would be lying if I said I was always 100% grammatically correct, but your argument toward me was that my argument made no sense. I was merely pointing out the fact that your argument was barely in English. When you speak eloquently your argument is automatically emphasized, no matter how ridiculous it may be...
1) SOME TIMES I LIKE CHEESEBURGERS 2) I LIKE TO MAKE LISTS 3) I HAD GAY-SEX WITH THE BACKSIDE OF A TREETRUNK THE OTHER DAY
Yao doesn't have the basketball IQ. Shame since he's been trained by great coaches like dawson, hakeem, ewing, dikembe, and other greats. He's just not very smart and the Yao ming project should just be stopped like tmac. Yeah lee sucks, but he's only gettin paid 1 million something. Lowry sucks. Martin seriously can't win games since he's a 1 trick pony.
What makes you think that taking charges is basketball 101? Especially for 7 footers, they should be taught to not take charges at all. You can actually try to defend your player to make him miss, you can try to block the shot, you can try to make him pass the ball, but when you are 7 feet tall, you don't decide to take a charge. Especially when it is way more easier for you than if you were Chuck Hayes. You do not understand my "logic" and once again, what you just said is mildly exaggerated to non sense. If instead of taking a charge, Yao actually decides to stay with his man and tries to block him or make him miss, the possibility for him to get injured will decrease and that's a fact. Plus, this won't result in a blocking foul 80% of the time. As for Yao not playing, or I should not go to work, that is non-sense and it's not my logic. Your argument sounds like what a 12 years old kid would say.
Yao doesn't take charges. It takes him a few seconds to move from a stationary position, and sometimes offensive players just ram into him. He's not doing it on purpose.
Deke would be ashamed. Honestly, reading your post reminded me of when the camera showed Deke upset at Yao for flopping to try and take a charge instead of going for the block. IIRC, He yelled something from the bench shaking his head in disgust.

Unfortunately, Yao is a big clumsy oaf which leads to all sorts of injuries. He's also not very smart (which is why he gets in foul trouble and turns the ball over so much) basketball wise and he doesn't learn quickly. He's a project and he'll always be a project ... an oft injured project.
