An open letter to my man Yao, we love your desire and passion for success. However, the way centers are beginning to push you around and easily dunk on you is flat out embarassing. I'm wondering (as many of us) when the day will come when u knock a guy on his butt for thinking about trying to dunk on you. Trust me, the tape of Nene and Al Jefferson pushing and bullying you is making its way around the league and scrub centers are salivating at a chance to punk you. We understand the culture thing, however, when in Rome do as Romans. Put someone on the floor and this foolishness of challenging you will cease. Until that time you will fill up ESPN and center highlights. Welcome to the NBA, do unto others as they have done unto you. Better yet, knock others out when they try to dunk on you or push you around. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my man Yao.
Al Jefferson aint no punk though....I think anyone who know's Yao knows he is a slow player mean smaller faster players, ahem...?
seriously i want yao to do what shaq did to stuckey when he tried to dunk on shaq. yao has to say, you wanna come at me, IT'S GONNA COME AT A HIGH COST. until he does that, he's gonna get dunked on repeatedly and nobody is gonna be afraid of attacking him. there's a reason nobody wants to go at shaq even when he's 90 years old. u dont' want to get hurt and embarrassed.
I believe its the lack of practice + the fact that he's still recovering that's making Yao Ming hesitant around the basket. His body just doesn't have the speed and quickness he used to display pre-injury, and the lack of practice has taken away the swagger and confidence he has. Don't worry though, it looks like Yao Ming is starting to adjust and his recovery is getting better day-by-day. I predict Yao "Mean" Ming is on his way back. Give him a couple of weeks
I watch the highlights and Jefferson just lower is head and knocked Yao back about 2 feet and dunked on him twice. A hard foul by Yao will make then think twice. It's time for him to through his bulk around.
exactly, these guys haev zero fear of yao. jefferson just put his head down and pushed yao away and then dunked on him. yao should be freakin' pissed next time if that happens to him and should want to destroy jefferson with a flagrant foul next time he does that.
Yao won't destroy his opponents by flagrant foull, he destroys them by scoring on their buckets. Yao's answer to Jefferson yesterday was the last shot, the dagger.
It's the way he looks after he gets dunked on that scares you. He looks defeated and afraid to go back at them on the offense end. I would go for him putting his elbow in someone face on his turn around jumper as if it was an accident and get an offensive foul. Teams see his reaction and softness and are starting to pick on him. We need him to be tough and respond like Tmac when teams try to punk him. Yao, please knock somebody out with a couple of elbows to go with it.
Bogus, Yao was dominated. Jefferson had 34 and 13 and with a little more help they would have come back and beat the Rockets. Focus on the fact that Yao was dominated and shooting fadeaways as his opponent is putting his head in Yao's chest and dunking on him at will. Nene dunked on him so hard, I thought Yao was going to cry. Stop giving Yao excuses and focus on the reality that he needs to put someone on the floor. All the great centers have done it. Russell, Jabbar, Dream, Shaq, Chamberlain, etc...
Yao wasn't dominated, Al had homecourt advantage and the lone scorer for the Twolves. It took him 31 shots attempt to get 32 points. Plus no double team; Give Yao the same shot attempt, fair call and no double team, He would have scored 60 points.
beyond that, he has to have an intimidation factor. do you see anyone try to dunk on dikembe even at age 90? and dikembe is not as physically imposing as yao. b/c you'll get one of deke's elbows for sure. i'm not asking yao to play dirty b/c that's not what we want. i want him to be physically imposing. yes, his size will alter shots, but guys still have no fear of going inside. yao can be physically imposing with just some hard fouls, not dirty fouls. if they try to dunk on yao, go for the ball, but go hard. next time, that guy will think twice before he tries to dunk on yao again.
He is not one of the great centers so please forget about it, learn to live with the yao you see everyday and that will make you feel better. Don't try to kill yourself if he doesn't do what you want him to do, Yao is Yao and you are you.
Yao can't go hard after the ball on the defensive end, for the same reason he doesn't go hard to the basket on the offensive end. He is not an explosive player. He is slow, and it takes him a LONG time to gather himself before he jumps in the air. If he attempts to go hard after the ball when he isn't balanced, he could actually seriously injure them by missing the ball completely and instead hitting their body.
Actually players have tried to dunk on Deke. Dwight Howard did it two years ago. He just went at him and Deke didn't put nobody on the floor. Getting dunked on is only embarrassing for the soft fans who can't take it. Yao is going to go for the block but if he misses he can take it, he's not going to cry. He has better things to worry about like winning a game than to put himself in foul trouble and hurt his team.
And besides, basketball is not all about dunking on someone and trying to act macho. But then again who am I kidding, the op is probably one of those douche bags.
