Channel 2 had a mention of Yao tonight training in Dallas and said he would be featured on Sports Sunday tomorrow nigth. They also had a bit of an interview tonight and he talked about how he couldn't believe the number of NBA players who have backed out of the olympics because in China it is such a high honor.

Guess that no one told Yao that all those Muslim extremists are targeting AMERICANS, and not Chinese.

I totally understand why guys are backing out.....

I don't think they care if some Chinese get caught in the crossfire. Actually there have been quite few cases of Chinese abroad dying in terrorist acts.

They want others to share their pain, the more the better.

Then why are just the NBA players backing out? The track and field, gymnasts, swimmers, divers and WNBA players don't seem to have a problem with it.

I understand why they are backing out too...they are filthy rich and don't need the hassle.

Well, I just learned terrorists like watching basketball too, or do they?

And Lebron and Melo accepted the invitation because they are not so high profile, right?

kudos to those who are willing to take the risk and fight for honor of their country!

NBA players would make high profile kills. Attention is what they(the terrorists) seem to want.

Are you saying that if say, our Olympic swimmers get bombed, it won't be too big a deal? I can guarantee you that if any of our athletes become a victim of terrorism at Athens, it's going to make the front page of every single newspaper the next day.

Neither the Williams sisters, nor our NBA stars, nor any other super-rich Olympic American athletes are really taking any more risk than our other Olympic competitors. If anything, they're probably at less risk, since their high profile will surely mean higher level of security.

Why throw fuel on the fire then hedge your way out? Summer is the time the NBA rests their multi-million dollar joints ~ why risk all that money when their positions can be filled by another pro that truly wants to go rep the US? This isn't an option for most countries with a limited talent pool. I seriously doubt the threats of terrorism are the reason players are declining.

All-Stars want to go but can't...

Why can't Steve Francis get on the team ~ he wants to go to Athens badly, has a lot of heart, and will make the team better.

It's why I don't care for USA Basketball (the team). I mean, they are never represented like they should be anymore.

For international play, I love to watch soccer. The best the USA has to offer always play.

Come on meh, DaDa never said that other athletes aren't high profile and that nobody cares if they're hurt or not, you're putting words in his mouth. Terrorists don't have to watch basketball, basketball is seen around the world and is well-known. People are so quick to jump on these guys for being rich and lazy, but people forget these people are human with families. What's to say that basketball player's wife didn't talk him out of going because she was scared for him? Yeah, other athletes go, but not everyone is the same way. Basketball is in a no-win situation anyway. If the best represent basketball they get ripped on for being a "bully" and that they should win, you should send the college players. Now the best don't go and they're getting ripped for THAT. Personally, I would send the college players, just to get people off the NBA player's backs. Heck, if basketball players aren't high profile, why are people making a big deal out of NBA players pulling out?
