http://yaoming.newclub.sohu.com/thr...ock=false&unarchive=false&tstart=-1&trange=-1 Posted by Yao on his forum. The translation is ripped off so don't thank me. A poster posted a suggestion to Yao Ming to ask him to step up his weight/strength training in the gym. The poster used himself as an example to stress to Yao Ming how important it is for him to strengthen his power and muscle on the upper limb by going thru systematic strength/power training in the gym and controlled diet program. Have not seen you for a while. What you've said is absolutely right: Strength is the very key factor. After joining NBA last year, the Rox has given me strength training just like crazy. Did you all notice that I lost my usual accuracy for my shots shortly afterwards ?? It was all due to that after the extensive strength training, I have been lazy in my shootout practice, and my skills have not got accustomed to the new added strength (of my arms). During the summer after I got back to China, I persisted in my strength training and had not reduced my shootout practice. Now everyday here except for the holidays, I must practice at least 150 baskets during shootouts. Strength is the foundation (to everything); an anology that you all can understand would be it was like the computer hardware, and your skills is the software. Finally, I must admit I found strength training extremely repugnant. I just felt compelled to do it. There is no way that I can escape but keep practicing if I don't want to be eliminated. Well, a poster posted a very very lengthy article giving Yao Ming all kinds of "constructive" suggestions on how he should change his attitude and demeanours on court, how to get the hungry look for success, how to self-motivate or motivate other team mates during game, how he should improve and specialize on his various weaponry of shots, how to mix those weaponry up on court, how to tackle double-team, how to draw fouls, how to communicate with his team mates, the spectators and referees, etc. etc. etc. I don't feel I can give you the right answer; some of the things you mentioned are what I currently lack. (I gave the impression of) Always hesitant on court, because this is about my physical conditions and my techniques. All these are key areas that will affect my entire basketball profession. Well everyone of you might say: Don't hesitate. Make the resolution (and be determined). I can only say right now, I cannot make my resolution yet, as I have not grasped thoroughly the methods and I don't have the detailed revision plan (on how should I improve my game). I can't afford to make mistake (for this transition). All I can do now is to change it bit by bit. Don't count on an overnight change for a lifetime achievement. I'm prepared to change my life to seek for my ultimate day of achievement.
The coolest thing about Yao, is that he is polite and courteous in his replies to backseat drivers that are repeating the SOS (same 'ole s---) that he's probably heard 1000 times before (How many times does he need to hear that he needs to get more aggressive, as if this hasn't been drilled into him since the time he came to the US). And his replies obviously have been well thought out and totally reassures the reader that he is taking his career seriously and will continue to improve his game however possible.
I like when Chinese fans translate stuff like this..provides good insight on what he's trying to do to improve. Thanks to whoever does translations
