CD was on the Matt Jackson show for a while today. I was just able to hear like 5 min worth. He was talking about how they (Rockets) were afraid Yao would be losing weight throughout the season. Due to traveling, stress, etc... Said in the beginning of the year he wieghed in at 296 and he thought that he was afraid he would be down at 285. They weighed him today and he came in at 301. Said they have been feeding him protien shakes like crazy. Also said that now Yao has much more definition on his shoulders and arms due to weight lifting
I won't argue the poor American diet part with you, but it takes 5,100 calories per day to maintain a 300# body weight for an athlete. There's plenty of room in there for a little junk food.
Yao definitly has added bulk since arriving. His upper back, shoulders, and triceps. Sometimes you'll see him bend over like Jordan used to....I know he bends over a lot, but watch when he doesn't bend over too far, and his arms are pressed up against his sides. With Jordan, you could see his triceps bulge out when pressed against his sides....Yao is starting show great definition and bulk added there too. Looking at pictures of his first game compared to now can show his improvement. 3 years from now, when new banners will be added, we will look back at photos and footage of Yao in his rookie year and say, "Look how young and skinny he looked."
He has added very little bulk!!!!!! He has become stronger and shows much more muscular definition on the arms and back. He will never have a bulky upper body but will become more chisled.
Is there any way anyone can post some early pics of Yao when he first arrived and some recent pics so we can compare.
I had a feeling we were going to pump that kid full of protein, creotein, and whatever tein we can.. he'll be a total monster in 9 months..
hi-carb diet of rice, pasta and fruits and he'll be putting on the pounds sooner than later. there's always creatine it works but i suspect and this is only a hunch without any backup that it may be a factor in future injuries if used.
Here is a picture from the first back to back Utah game after the Allstar break. His arms have definately thickened up some.
Yao has fundamental skills that will adhere to whatever his bodytype is. He's young and quick now.. but finese won't cut it in this conference.. Yao needs power.. he'll always have that soft touch he has.. and he'll be quick until he ages.. but power is the only thing he lacks at the moment.
