I am against flopping but it is clear that Yao does not get the benefit of the calls when players jump into him. Let me elaborate. Each game, I notice at least 1 or 2 plays when the opposing player just jumps into Yao. Yao is standing there with his hands up in the air but the ref calls the foul on Yao simply because Yao is bigger. This happened yesterday with Seattles PF. Sesay I think.. With that said, I think Yao may have to "dramatize" the opponents fouls. Yao is too big to fall on most occasions but he should fake it nonetheless. Thoughts?
Im not arguing against you but I dont want Yao to be considered to be a dirty player by any means. Maybe like a team Utah Jazz... But maybe you have a point it would help him some.???
Actually, this is a very good point....he could get a ton of calls if he flops. So often he stands there and gets the call against him, if he flops it looks like the offensive player initiated the foul...it would work, especially since he is probably going to fall anyway. DD
I'd rather lose clals like MEN than flop like those we ALL despise. Yao, remain a man. You are better than that crap.
It comes to a point where you can flop and draw the charge and stand there and get in foul trouble.... If I had to pick between those 2, I would definitely go with the flopping. It is pretty ridiculous how refs call a foul on Yao when he simply stands there. I guess they give cut his opponents some slack since they are smaller.
Remember before Shaq that it was illegal to rock into a defender to clear space for your shot? The "game" was adjusted to accomodate this action. IMHO, Yao should continue playing his game and allow the officiating to get caught up or adjusted to his style rather than vice versa.
I guess you would want him to put up a knee and do some stupid antics next, huh? Please don't try to corrupt him... he's the way he is and he will play the way he plays because he knows the game. He wants to win cleanly. Please don't corrupt this great player insinuating he is not a man if he doesn't flop. I am not saying that he won't get the calls, all I am saying is that he shouldn't be as dirty as (already mentioned by peleincubus) the Utah J**zzholes
I strong dissagree. Flopping in my book is somewhat unsportmanlike. It undermines one credibility on the court IMHO.
Cool website. But there is nothing wrong with flopping. Do you think big guys like Shaq would EVER draw a charge if he didnt flop??? My point is that if someone jumps into Yao, Yao needs to emphasize the hit and fall. Otherwise, as we have seen over this past season, the ref will call the foul on Yao. Whether this is fair or not is not the issue. The issue is that its been 60+ games now and a trend is emerging. When a smaller guy jumps into Yao even when Yao has good position, the majority of the times the ref will call a foul on Yao. It is up to Yao and the coaching staff to realize this and make adjustments.
Which is better: lying side way or face down? For YAO's size, I think he should be on his side 'cause that's safer.
Staff (and you) - "Say, Yao... ummm... could you just exaggerate the fall or touch... just a little... er, I mean, to make the refs think that the foul on you is harder than it actually is?" Yao - "WHAT? [through interpreter]????" Staff - "yeah... you know... do you know what flop means?" Yao - "No, I do not know flop. I know play fair and play your own game. I don't remember Hakeem flopping... but he still won championships. If you want Yao to flop, Yao can flop for you." Screenplay written by SwoLy-D with dimes from other CC.NET members... (thanks, xCharged) Nothing wrong with flopping, you say? Show me how many championships flopper Malone and flopper Stockton have won, then you can tell me that flopping is good for Yao. Nice picture, OLLIEZ, but that's not Yao... that's Cuttino (aka "the Cat")
Hell, just take the Vlade School of Flopping course and he'll be at the line 100% more, guaranteed...
EVERY player in the league flops one time or another. Do you really think that ANYONE can knock down Shaq? As we know, Yao is a young player. There are little tricks to the trade that he does not yet know. Flopping is one of them.
I don't know how much good flopping would do. He gets thrown to the floor several times a game and still never gets the call.
