Posting this before tonight's game is even up, but once again, I can't understand why our second source of scoring has only gotten off 8 shots. TMac will get his shots any given night, but Yao?!? Fine, he was really bogged by those early fouls, but still, as another thread has already mentioned, we need Yao to take more shots. Now the idea of the guards creating more open looks for him isn't off to the best start, and even if he gets inside, more often then not defenders are ready to push out on him. Given his height, and a reasonable midrange shot, I'd really like to see Yao developing a quick turnaround jump shot immediately off a feed into the post, just like in the ole days with the inside/outside with Hakeem and his guards. Aggression in the post is one thing Yao hasn't got a handle on right now, so rather than forcing him to do the right thing which would be to pound away (refs aren't helping either), taking a quick shot would be the next best thing for him to develop as part of this offensive arsenal. What do you guys think?

Part is Yao himself. He always kicks out if he is doubled. That is fine if the role players are making it. But when everyone is bricking it, he should shoot it even he is doubled.

Yao will kick out to the guards when team double on him, I think that's part or our O plan, the only problem is our guards can not hit, especially DW, and also our guards really need to more cut to the rim.
I think after DWs shot tuch come back, we will be fine.

So the bigest problem is DWs shoot.

On a happier note: We're the 8th seed right now!

I agree completely. Every great big man has been able to score through double and triple teams. Hakeem and Shaq could find the open shooter, but more important was that they could be collapsed upon, fouled, and still get the basket. If Yao wants to be dominant like them he's got to stop being shy to double teams. Even Tracy doesn't hesitate to shoot over two defenders if he has to.

Or you could argue that since the zone rules were enacted no center has done what Shaq and Dream used to do because the double or triple-teaming affects how and where a center gets the ball.

I think Shaq wants to be dominant like Shaq was (I think he'd approve of the grammar here) but the problem with Yao is he's being coached to shoot and I firmly believe it's affected his overall game.

I've said for a long time Yao will learn, but it's possible that since every roatation player is gone since he arrived that his learning curve has steepened.

Yao passing out of slow double-teams makes me absolutely crazy. In almost every single instance he can still get a good look by dropstepping baseline for a hook or jumper. The only good thing I have to say is that he'll pass it out, but immediately repost and usually get much better position. If the guards give him the ball back, he's usually in great position for an easy bucket.

Unfortunately right now it just isn't working. They need to make some adjustments. Either:

    1. Yao makes his move right away and attacks before the double teams get there.

    2. Yao gets better at splitting or spinning away from the doubles.

    3. Yao passes it out, but the guards immediately looks for the repost to pass back.

    4. The perimeter players start making their open jumpers.

Somethings got to give because this offense is truly unwatchable. Season's still early, but I hope they do something soon.

I think part of it is the officiating. Yao get so many bogus calls that he is sometimes unwilling to make strong moves to the basket.

Ya, cant believe the western conference is so opened now! Expect Utah to drop further with Kirilenko injured and i dont think Warriors will stay up too long. but the Clippers look like real deal though!

Enuff blaming on the refs. Whatever happened on the court, should settle on the court and everything begins with yao himself. So, yao himself should settle it. Fouls, not happy with, voice it out loud. dont just keep quiet and react like an innocent kid. Shout at the referees, let them know how piss u are. Dont just worry about the few thousands dollars fine. Shout out his feeling and i believe after few Ts and fines, referee will treat yao more fairly.
As for not enuff shots attempt. It also begin with yao himself. If yao feels confident against craps like Kandi, Blount etc etc. He should demand the ball and demand the ball. How can he let kandiman dominate himself and keep quiet it unbelieveable to me. Dont yao has any pride ???

our offense would work if our guys would hit open shots, but they aren't right now. it's up to the coach to find ways to get guys to the tin. i was extremely impressed with rafer tonight. he played the way i expect him to play. agressive, getting into the middle and making something happen. our guards have to step it up though. wesley and anderson missed a lot of open looks.

we also have to stop running yao running around setting screens. get him on the block and have some cross screening the post to get him open. he's wasting energy that guys like stro and howard have to burn.

I'm not sure if any of you have noticed, but another large part of the problem with the double team is that Yao ALWAYS kicks it back out, and the opposing team can easily anticipate the kick-back. That gives our "open" shooters much less time to take an "open" shot, and then they end up just swinging it around the horn and wasting shot clock, or just bricking it up. One thing that would really help in this situation would be for Yao to just learn to shoot with a double team. If he could do this with any consistency at all (or at least punish one of the two that is on him), our perimeter guys would get better looks and perhaps start shooting better!
