To get to 20-10 !! He is 19 rebounds shy of averaging 10 rebounds a game, so he needs to get at least 10 a game, and all the extras above that need to add up to at least 19 by the end of the year. 14 games left, 11.36 rebounds per game, and he is back at 20-10....assuming he continues to score of course. COME ON YAO !!!!!! BOARD UP BABY !! Who else thinks he can get there? And do you think he WILL do it? DD
Hopefully he will have another of his 20 rebounds nights. I have full faith in Yao that he will get 20-10 this season.
It would be nice for him to get there to shut up some of the haters, but really....Who cares? 25 and 9 is fine with me. Yao could easily average 10 rebounds a game if he were more selfish. He let's other teammates take rebounds away from him. Two things I wish Yao improved on: shot blocking, and lowering his turnovers.
good thread. I always thought 20-10 was an elusive catagory. Not many players get there. Currently there are four: Kevin Garnett: 23.0 ppg and 12.7 rpg Carlos Boozer 21.0 and 11.7 (guy is having an amazing year under the radar) Tim Duncan: 20.1 and 10.7 Zach Randolph: 23.5 and 10.1 (another under the radar guy) close but not quite to 20-10: Dwight Howard: 18.0 and 12.1 Shawn Marion: 17.6 and 10.2 Jermaine O'Neal 19.5 and 9.8 Amare Stoudemire 20.5 and 9.7 (so close I hope he gets a few 5 rebs games in a row to knock him off pace) Dirk Nowitzki 25.2 and 9.6 Elton Brand 20.4 and 9.3 unfortunately Yao has missed so many games he isn't officially listed among the leaders in statistics (at least at yahoo) Yao Ming: 24.7 and 9.5 Pau Gasol: 20.9 and 9.5 (also missed too many games) amazing side note: Jason Kidd is averaging 8.0 rebs a game!
oops, some how forgot Chris Bosh is averaging 20-10 also (22.9 and 10.5). Although he has missed too many games to be qualified as well.
i think he can do it, just like how he did it last year... then he'll be the only 25/10 guy in the entire league!!! eat that elton brand of last year
It pisses me off a little that Yao struggles to get 10 boards I mean he is freaking 7-6. I am very, very happy with his shot selection and development on the offensive end but the rebounding must improve. Yao also has improved his team defense so I hope the next step is him becoming a 12 rebound a night player. 25, 12, and 3 blocks would be pretty close to dream numbers This being said I look for Yao to bring it in the playoffs!
He can probably get more defensive rebounds if he wants but sometimes he lets his teammates get them.He is not a good offensive rebounder, which mainly due to his jumping ability and sense of position, in addition, his main assignment is not to fight for an offensive rb, but go back to his own court and defend. I have no problem with his rebounds. Limit the TO is the most important for him.
I agree with some of that, the to's really kill us but still by acident he should get 10+ a night HE IS 7'6!!! All and all I am very pleased with the way Yao has developed and I hope he becomes the dominate force night in and night out like we all know he can (he has had multiple stretches of great games I mean 10 straight at times)
If Yao would simply get better at positioning he could be a monster on the glass....and he was really rebounding with a fury at the end of last year..... He can do it....I just WANT him to do it. !! DD
I want to see more off rebounds of Yao. It seems like everytime Yao gets a off rebounds, it will be a 3 pts play. It's more useful than a def rebound.
Haven't we heard this story before, constantly over and over again. 7'6" helps you rebound if the ball is coming right at you and you've boxed your guy out, but having quickness and mobility to get to spots, and the ability to anticipate where the rebound is going to go is much more important to rebounding. Because it really doesn't matter how tall you are, if you're out of position for the board.
I think as he gets more confidence in his leg he will become more aggresive. As for the turnovers all he has to do is turn and shoot. Keep the ball off the floor!!!
yao's not going to be a great rebounder simply because for one he's not as athletic (quick and with great hands) as other players, and two, he's really unselfish. so most of the time he just boxes his guy out and allows his teamates get the rebound.
It pisses me off that we are still beating a horse that is long dead. 7'6" gives you the advantage in height. But 7'6" also gives you the disadvantage in mobility and lateral quickness. Is this really that difficult to understand? To put this into perspective, the best rebounder in NBA in the last 15 years is Dennis Rodman who is 6'8".
