Just about 1 hour after the Rockets vs. Cavs game. A Yang Yi's article was pasted and copied on Yao Ming's BBS.

    Here is the original post

It was a long article. I won't translate them all. Just give you a brief idea what Yang was talking about.

The title was "Only the ones who confront are entitled to be called Dominant Center. Yao should've given an elbow back"

Yang obviously didn't agree with Yao's reaction to Big Z's pushing. He thought Z was intending to provoke Yao, because Z though he was similiar to Yao physically and skill-wise but didn't have Yao's lucky to be selected to ASG twice.

Yang went on that most NBA player were nice to Yao. However, because Yao was always only focusing on playing basketball during games, people had been always thinking he was just a technical center, a long way to go for him to develop into a tough guy. That impression had in fact motivated the opponents to be simply eager to fight hard with him. Z's defence on him today was a typical example.

Yang thought Yao should at least push back or go chest against chest, instead of doing "trash talk" (he used english here)

However, Yang was sure that Yao was really angry about Z's action and acknoledged that Yao did show more assertiveness in the aftermath game when facing Z. But Yang commented THAT was not enough. Had more opponents played dirty like Z, Yao's game would be even harder and exhausting. Finally he sugested Yao should find a couple of good chances to fight back even at the price of some Ts. Besides more scores and boards, Yao should use his body language, plus some scary facial expression to tell his rivals: DON'T MESS WITH ME, OR YOU'LL BE IN BIG TROUBLE.

Yao Ming, to my supprise, was the first one to respond the post 10 mins later. Interesting though, he said, "It wouldn't be appropriate for me to openly agree with such actions (he meant the ones Yang had suggested). However, I would recognize (not oppose) them in private. "

Yao: I don't support such overt behaviour, but in private I agree it's a fvcking good idea.

first of all, what the hell is up with that link. i couldn't close the damn window no matter how many times i clicked it on it. oh well that was annoying.

although i didn't read the article or response, yao's reply seems to indicate that he too wished he had "stepped up" to Z, instead of backing off. i dunno, to me he seemed a little scared at the time, and i'm willing to bet that he feels a little shame from that, and wished he had pushed Z back or go chest to chest/chin to chin or done something else. i dunno, that's my theory anyway.

i agree with yang in that yao should show more aggressive body language and scary facial expressions. boogaboogabooga!! seriously, his face can be pretty scary when he's pissed off, like an angry square-headed giant caveman monster. although yao has been playing and acting more aggressive lately, he could still take the aggression to the next level and become meaner. but i doubt it, cause a nice guy just can't turn into a mean guy. i'm just happy that he's playing more aggressive, but he still needs to take more shots.

    I concur.

He should take around 18~ 20 shots. That's not too much to ask when you look at Steve's FG%

What I noticed was immediately afterwards, Yao was surrounded by about 4 Cavs. Where were the Rockets in that mess?

BUT, I did like when Yao dunked over JAMES off that sweet Mobley dish towards the end of the game. That seemed like enough payback to me. Anyone have a picture of that dunk? Or maybe a video?

Are you kidding? Cato went right for Big Z, SF went and grabbed Yao out of there. Cat ran over into the huddle and seemed to be trash-talking Z as everything was calming down.

Nah, I didn't see that, but it's good to know.

Right after it happened, I saw a Cav seperate Yao & Z, then it looked to me that there were a couple other Cavs around, but I didn't see our guys.

this thread leads me into topic ive been wanting to post for awhile..

will yaoming every get into a fight? or has he every got into a fight?

i suspect yaoming will be labeled as soft until he gets into some tussles..this incident is a prime example..

has duncan ever been in a fight? answer is no. i thought yao's response to the push was pretty much appropriate, but I do wish he would have just given the obligatory NBA stare and "WTF!", as most NBA'ers know how to do so well without ever intending to really fight. Yao will learn.

The more you ignore someone, the more it gets under their skin, and you get them off their game. Just my opinion tho'.

I agree absolutely. Tit for tat is childish, causing a lot of violence in society.

Yao has tons of family-oriented endorsements requiring him to put up a nice-guy image. Winning the game is revenge enough for something as trivial as this.

Cato was in the middle of it as soon as Yao was pushed.

C'mon, how many guys haven't been in some kind of a confrontation... in a bar, at a game, walkin' down the street... and then gone home and ranted with friends:

"Dammit, I shoulda kicked that guy's ass. Did you see him? I could've kicked his ass. He was skinny as hell."

But anyways, a lot of good stuff in this article.

Yao Ming should think about how cruel this last battle (game) was. Shooting 7 of 18 is his worst performance since the Feb. 7th game against the Hawks. If every opponent played like big Z, determined to test you and push you, you're going to exhauste yourself. But if you find the right opportunities a couple times, even if you take a couple technical fouls, you can give notice you're a keg of gunpowder (really, thats' what he says)... and the warrior spirit of your opponents will be cut in half.

I've said to Yao Before, maybe because you have the personality of a Shanghainese.. your first instinct is not to rush up and confront. But if you want to become a superstar center in the NBA, you need to charge in without a blink of the eyes.

Another interesting comment here... China has a population that's 3 times as large as that of all of Europe, 5-6 times that of the United States. There's not a single cultural identity that applies to all Chinese. I think what Yang's saying is that if big Z had picked on a Mongolian/Manchurian dude from the northeast area of China instead, he would've seen his house razed and his wife/sheep pillaged.

it was the case. even replay showed all other 4 players came to protected yao. it's good since this is a team sport and yao is our super star on the team.

Carlos Boozer separated Z from Yao.

Cato immediately came over and lash out at Z man. He got a well deserved dboule T for that. Steve got Yao out of the mess, and Cat changed some words with Z.

It was obvious that Z was determined to take Yao out of the comfort zone and he was also frustrated that he was not able to put the ball in to hole.;)

I saw Cato immediately get into the face of Z and Cat also jump in to yell at Z.
