There is an interesting article with Yao Ming's own comments regarding each of those 6 blocks he had. It's a relatively long article.

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2002-08-26/1029305646.shtml

In one tidbit Yao Ming mentioned that he heard the rumor that A. Davis was gonna "introduce him to the nba". So he was determined to swap away davis's dunk attemp as his response. He injured his finger in the process. (couldn't even hold a fist, and didn't score a point since). He said it is worth it.

Interesting article. Someone please translate it.

[I posted this as a follow up to another topic as well. ]

Hopefully its not too bad of an injury. I remember jamming my left pinkey back in March. But its August now, and its still not the same. I think I broke it. I gotta get it fixed. But I don't want to re-break it.

Oh yeah, this is about Ming. Uh...nice job.

You think you had a break that you left untreated for 5 months? That's not going to heal right.

"Oh yeah, this is about Ming. Uh...nice job."

:D :D :D ....Does three of these equal ROTFLMAO? That's a great line.

BTW,why did it take you 5 months to wonder if,perhaps...just maybe, you needed professional help on that finger? You must be a total moron. I would've wised up by the fourth month. Four and a half, tops.:)

I think cause of Mings height, hes gonna block some shots. But has anyone else noticed he has arms like Otis Thorpe and Kevin Willis (way too short for his height?). I can easily see Griffin blocking just as many shots per game and Ming does, provided their playing time is equal.

Never really cared. How much do you use you left pinkey?

It didn't really hurt, it was just kind of bent. I kind of realized it a while back, but didn't want to re-break it. Would you want your finger re-broke? I think I will get it checked out soon. Its starting to bother me in my typing class. Its hard to type Q,A, and Z. Sure hope I can get it fixed before we get to using the left shift. :D

My translation (abridged) of Yao's comments on his blocks:

On LaFrentz: They credit me the first block in the 2nd quarter. Actually I stuffed A. Miller's layup on the backboard in the 1st quarter was absolutely a good block. But the official ruled it a goaltend. However, that block on LaFrentz, I felt that I fouled him a little. But the refs didn't call it. I guess it's a makeup to the other one.

On O'Neal: I was defending Davis straight up. I saw O'Neal trying to force it. I anticipated that he couldn't make a pass, so I jumped over there and got him. It was so cool! But I have to be fair. That ball seemed to have reached the highest point. If they ruled it a basket I wouldn't be complaining.

On A. Miller: He thought I wouldn't be that fast. But in fact I was right behind him. R. Miller was at the other wing on the fast break but he had Li Lan after him. A. Miller's best possibility was taking it himself. I was too tall for him. I could saw his scalp while I was running. I saw him pulled up to shoot. I just stretched my arm and got him.

On Davis: It was this one. I blocked him from behind. I swatted the ball but hit my hand on the board. It hurt a lot. That's why I didn't score a point in the 4th quarter. Now it is still swollen. I can't even hold a fist. But I heard that he vowed to beat me up before the game. If that's true, it was worth it!

On LaFrentz: (Yao blocked Collison's shot. LaFrentz picked up the ball and was knock off by Yao. FaFrentz caught the ball again and finally put it in the basket.) Where did that white guy (Collison) come from? He is a college student. I said I hadn't seen him before. If he entered next year's draft, he would be considered my "lower classman." That was LaFrentz's only 2 points of the game. I read the box score and he was 1 for 5. Let him get that 2, all right.

On Collison: That one I shouldn't have hit it to the outside. If I was more calm at that time, I would caught the ball in the air with one hand. Wouldn't that be like Carter's stunt in his commercial? But then I thought, he only played for 5 min. and shot only twice. All got ruined in my hands. I was a bit too unkind to him already.

edit: I thought his comment about being able to see Miller's scalp was pretty funny.:)

Actually Willis and Thorpe's short arms made them block shots like a guy who is 6-8 or 6-9, Ming's short arms would probably have hime blocking shots like a 7-2 guy instead of a 7-6 guy, and that still is an awesome talent. Griffin and Ming are different type of shot-blockers, Griffin is more of a weakside shot-blocker, that's why he'll block at the same ratio as Ming. Ming will intimidate guys and force them to the baseline and Griffin will have a field day. But Ming's arms being shorter then usual won't necessarily mean Griffin will be as good a shot-blocker as him.

This doesn't matter. Yao is 7'6". He can block 90% of the players in the
NBA without jumping. What he loses in arm length, he gains in abnormal
    hight.

Grif can block a lot of shots, not only because he has long arms, but
because he a quick and high jumper.

    Timing is everything.

I think Griff may be right there with Ming. With Yao around players will forget about Griff early on, but as the season progresses they'll remember to respect The Griffster.

Do I stand alone with the belief that we could break a team record for blocks like most in a game by 2 players or a team?

Even if Shaq backs down Yao, Griff will be on the weak side ready to swat it. He's done it before! :D

Does anyone know the extent of Ming's injury? Is it a ligament tear or a fracture or just a sprained finger? Hopefully it's nothing bad.

    WHAT!? A LIGAMENT TEAR?!

Oh, you were asking. I got scared when I saw that. It could be a sprain or broken finger. Like I said above, I guess I broke my pinky. It got pretty swollen, but it went down eventually. I need to get it fixed, though.

I think it will be OK. Chinese NT played a game with some bench players and rookies of Denver yesterday. And Ming played that game. (77-84, China lost).

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! So what if his arms are short, just look at the game against team U.S.A. .....The NBA All-stars had a very difficult time shootin' da rock over him! :D At times it almost seem UNfair!!! MY R.O.Y.

What was his stats, quotes, and how did he play?Just kidding. :D

So I take it that TSASDGAHDHDVV guy and that other dude played. Unless China took it easy as well, I would have thought they would win. Oh well.

It's said Ming didn't play that much in that scramble. His finger is expected to heal b/f the WC play.

I don't care if the guy is 10"5' with the arm of a 7'9" guy. he would still block 95% of the shots coming his way.
