Yao has a lot of work to do on his game this summer. True, tonight he was at his worst along with the rest of the team, but if he wants to be a star in this league he has to make a lot of improvements. Obviously he needs to bulk up. He also needs to develop more of a wepitoire (sp?) of shots. It seems like its really kinda limited right now. Also, he really needs to work on his footwork. Although it will be extremely disappointing if Houston doesnt make the playoffs, which is looking more and more like a possibility, this team will improve. To the future of the franchise
You mean repertoire of shots.... .I totally agreed with the assement about YM...he needs to improve his footwork and upper body strength.
While I agree generally, I disagree about the specifics. In fact, one might almos think that Yao's current repetoire of shots is too deep. He need sto develope 2-3, and that's it, 2-3 consistent low post moves, that he feels comfortable with and can use at ease. 2 out of the 3 must be going to the basket, with 1 being the jump hook (which he needs the most practice at), and the other being some sortof power move to the middle or drop step. The third money can be a turn around jumper, which, depending on the night, may or may not fall. He definitely needs to work on bulking up a bit, and athleticism. Other than that, a few more easy baskets a game should help - given he size, he gets way too few of those.
All three of you dudez is right... It is not necessary to repeat what you guys said, because it is all true... but I will add that Yao also needs to know he shouldn't give up his chance to shoot in the block too easily, especially until maybe one day the guards make sharp cuts to the basket... its like, Yao wants to me Mr. Nice guy all the time and give everybody else the rock... im a big Yao fan, and everytime i see a Yao diss, i miss the part where people say he's going to improve so much next year because his potential is limitless and he has a great attitude to learn. man, im dying for him to add a drop step to his game, he has all the toolz to do it
A while back I remembered Yao mentioned that he has to learn to use the quickest and easiest way to score. For Yao to get better, obviously he needs to become stronger and develop a few consistent move under the basket ala Shaq. He can use the rest of his other repertoire now and then, but those consistent low post moves will get him his points night in and night out. One thing I hope he can become consistent in is the hook shot similar to what Taylor has. That might turn out to be Yao biggest weapon.
I just watched Mav vs Lakers game tonight. At one point, Shaq simply turned and send Bradley to the floor rolling. Perhaps Yao can learn a few tricks like that.
Yao Ming just did what everyone else was doing- having a miserable night! He desnt liker to outshine the others. Of course we hope he will get over this frame of mind!
