He's not tuff, he is not athletic, and he is slow...

But, in my opinion, he really is unappreciated and overlooked around here. I don't think many people realize that he only averages about 13 shots per game and still averages right at 20 per games. While shooting at a %55 clip from the field and 87% from the free throw line!!!

Utah just knows what to do when yao has the ball the problem is that we need to adjust our game when playing this team. It's like we have confidence then we don't have confidence. I know brooks is small but williams shouldnt be toying with him like he did last night. One play in mind was when brooks got picked and artest switched to williams and knocked the ball away. Brooks should have been back there to pressure williams or try and get a steal but he followed the russian kerilenko(sorry for the spelling) half way then tried to get back to williams and artest had to try and run from the three point line to the opposite side block to get back but couldn't of course. I know this is brooks first year but he can't make those mistakes him and artest could have gotten a steal there.

I just thought they should of attacked Boozer when he was guarding Yao in the post. Couple occasions they either shot the ball or just went the other way.

I agreed with the OP. For a man with his limitations (his height and weight make him slow and unathletic), Yao has to work 101% to get to where he is. To train and compete as hard as he does, getting almost 20/10 every NBA game, Yao is definitely under-appreciated.

Some posts in this thread are totally unnecessary and make me mad. If you do not know what appreciation is, go and ask your mum. This thread is not about comparing so and so player with Yao. While you are at it, why not compare Dwight with Yao one on one as well? Bloody idiots, really. Good that we have an unlimited ban list.

i think people do appreciate him. sure you get some yao bashing threads after losses here and there, but overall people don't really blame him for the team's shortcomings. it was steve, then tmac, and now artest.

we know yao's weaknesses and he's really not a superstar player. we get frustrated with some of the things he struggles with b/c there are some "fixable" things and he has kept doing it for 7 years. but he is what he is. an extremely gifted and very good player. if you have too high of expectations of how dominant you can be, you'll be disappointed. but he's a very good player who does make our team better.

He was one of the positives in the game along with Battier's shooting. Only had 1 TO despite constant doubles. If only some of his shots had fallen. He seems to be aware of his TO problem and hopefully he has taken note of over dribbling.

it's smart of jazz to assign boozer to guard yao, yao has troubles on both ends when facing small centers.

i wouldn't say millsap won a contest, yao did his job with what he was given...

He used 5 fouls against them and did an admirable job in the paint, some things aren't always yao's fault.

Didn't he finish with 4 or 5 blocks? for someone who avg's 1.9. I'd say he did his best but they kept coming... Kudos to Utah plain and simple

Despite the slow feet, weak upper body, not knowing how to seal your man on the low block, slow to go up to the basket and lack of aggressiveness, he is an excellent player.

Now, lets say he played when Ewing, Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaq in his prime, Parrish, Kareem...how would he do?

His greatest asset is his height. Period.

If he had the .10 percent basketball character type of lets say Kobe Bryant, or Olajuwon or even Barkley had, he would score 30pts per night without breaking a sweat. If he had .10 percent of the will power to demand the ball, go to his coach and tell him to get the ball...he would score 30pts per night without blinking an eye.

Yao is an excellent player. But there are two levels above that. There is Hall of Fame player. And then there are the Gods. He may reach the HOF. MAYYYYYBE. But thats about it.

We need to be real about Yao. He may have peaked.

    Look at Millsap's stats:
    27 minutes, (6-12) 15 points and 3 blocks.
    Where is our paint defense?

How can we defeat Jazz if Yao could not outplay Millsap?

I think both of you are making hasty generalizations about my OP. Slow down, take your time and read it again. Because your posts were not in context...
