Now the letter from Rockets after NBA approval will be the last link to assure Ming will put on a Rocket Cap in the draft night.

This public statement is a HUGE step in easying CBA's worry IMO, now if Rocket can act quickly.. I can go sleep now, see ya tomorrow around draft time.

PS: News is from China, source: Erik Zhang.

I agree with michecon, this is a huge step. It will help calm both the CBA and Rockets fears.

You can see that Yao really wants to play, and for the Rockets.

It's recent news at a chinese web site. Based on the following news, they are working two things: 1) Yao will promise national duty is higher than everything else in public satement; 2) Rocket's letter is working and will be sent to CBA after NBA approvement. I am sorry I do not have time to translate whole news, but nothing new except above points. All these cames from Erick Zhang. I am not very confident In Zhang.

    Okok:

Yao Ming representative Erik Zhang hinted last night that everything related to Yao Ming playing in the NBA is moving in the right direction. "We believe that the Chinese basketball authorities will work as quick as possible for an agreement."

Erik Zhang indicated that everything will finish at the latest by today. He said that both sides are already working on the contents of the approval letter (to FIBA), and that this letter is Yao Ming's "golden key".

From Erik Zhang's perspective, everything suggested by Yao Ming's family + negotiating team can be fulfilled, and as to the CBA's fear that Yao Ming might not return for national team duties, not only will the Rockets send a written agreement, but Yao Ming himself will speak publically today. In this announcement, he will reassure all of the countries basketball fans that his responsiblities to the national team is the most important thing.

Erik Zhang also said, although everything with the Sharks is just a verbal agreement, but shortly this verbal agreement will be put down on paper. And furthermore, if the basketball center requires a change, any of Yao Ming's representatives are immediately available for a reply.

    Ok, here comes my translation

Regarding the CBA's worry about having Yao Ming coming back in time for National team duties, not only have the Rockets sent their written assurance, but Yao Ming will also announce today regarding this issue. In the announcement, he will guarantee all the fans in the nation that the National team is his number one priority.

Sounds like the Rockets has already or will soon sent their written assurance to the Chinese :)

no real difference. I think they can make this kind of letter in 5 minutes and send it to china in 5 seconds if Rockets promised.

I believe CD got it done before he went to bed.

i jus heard the complete opposite of this. i heard the CBA said the rox had to have a written agreement saying yao could come back anytime(including during the nba season and playoffs) to practice with the national, but the rox said they couldnt gurantee that. i also heard the rox will take yao even without the approval of the cba. imo this is pretty dumb. what if ming gets injured in china and never puts on a rox uni next season and would ming have to come play for us if we drafted him without the approval of the CBA and FIBA?

Is this really good news? I'm probably missing something here, but I want Ming to make the Rockets priority #1. From the sounds of it, the national team takes precedent.

The written assurance is for the Asian Games and Asian Championship games which are both held during the NBA off-season and only once every four years.

Both parties has already agreed that:

    1. Yao will play through the NBA season and play-offs uninterruped.

    2. Yao will be allowed to play in the Olympics and World Championship games, both also held during the off-season.

The latest news coming from China is that the Rocket has agreed to send the written assurance.

He is saying this to calm the CBA's fears so they will release him as soon as possible. His national team commitment will only be during the NBA off-season anyway.
