Yao said his latest doctor visit this week showed progress with the ankle and he should have a better idea in August about his availability for next season. "We'll know more in a couple of months," Yao said during an appearance at Hunters Creek Elementary in west Houston. Yao, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, said he would like to remain with the Rockets. "I'd like to be here," Yao said. "Nowhere else is better than Houston for me right now." "The only issue is my injury." Yao played in only five games last season and required surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left ankle. The 7-foot-6 center has had his career derailed by injuries the past few years, most notably to his left foot and ankle. Interesting to see if he'll even be able to play again and at what level, and more interesting to see if he'll even really still have much of a place on the team. We do need to move on in the "getting a center" department.
Yao Ming should be a Rocket next season and until the end of his career, no matter how near or how far that date may be.
If I thought we'd get that for any length of time, I'd be on board. He's an injury waiting to happen.
