Personally, I think Lebron James self-destructs sooner or later. Most likely sooner. I wish the kid luck, and he sounds like an amazing talent... but at some level, you just can not be successful, regardless of your god-given talents, if your mind doesn't allow you to succeed.

I think the environment he grew up in really, really hurts the odds of him becoming a lasting success.

he'll be alright as long as he doesn't let the "women" get to him first.

uh, check that. he might not be okay.

But that's the rushed, inflated world LeBron James lives in. It is no surprise that he already refers to himself in the third person -- "LeBron stays humble by just being LeBron," he says -- or that he shouts "King James!" or "You sorry!" after he's dunked on you.

the dude is talking in the third person? Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?

the poor kid, hes so young that he doesn't even know that hes being used and exploited every which way possible. I bet you once he gets injured, I hope it doesn't happen, you're gonna see alot of apathy and backlash from the media.

Theres not doubt he has the talent, maybe more enough talent to change the game of basketball. I hope he does well and matures as well.

I've seen Lebron James. There are only 4 players in the NBA I wouldn't trade for him:

    Kobe
    Shaq
    Duncan
    McGrady

That's it. Iverson, Pierce, Francis, Ming, Wagner, Chandelr, Curry, J O'Neal, no one....Not young, not old, not anything....

Like his draft profile says, "As can't mis as can't miss gets...".

Maybe talent wise he's "As can't miss as can't miss gets...", but it sounds like he has a lot of maturing and growing up to do. Not necessarily his fault, more of the media and agents hyping him up to be some kind of God. Man I hope he goes to a small market team. Not LA or New York.

We all know that a large proportion of Hollywood's kid stars got exploited and ended up living a bad life. The world of pro sports is looking more and more like Hollywood.

    I would still keep Yao.

Granted, I've only seen a few clips of James, and he seems to be pretty impressive.

But I'd still go with the franchise big man, especially when there's also a franchise lead G on his team.

To me, he seems like the kind of player that's all LeBrawn and no LeBrain.

Question I'm pondering is: Would you trade Steve for that #1 draft pick if you could?

I read an article from ESPN about him and his parents (stepdad I think) some days ago. I got a feeling that his parents are also still maturing. He may need a good coach and be in some good agents' hands. Hope I am wrong.

On the other hand, I think Yao Ming is well-educated, well-parented and in good hands now.

if you could trade steve for lebron james, i think most people would do it based on the consideration that people have said james plays like magic johnson.

Shawn Kemp was a pretty good athlete himself. Would you guys want him now? Or Latrell Sprewell?

Lebron can turn out to be one of the great ones *if* he treats his profession and his life seriously. I'd trade Francis for Lebron, in a flash, if Lebron was being raised by Yao's parents. He isn't. This kid has potential trouble written all over him... thankfully coke isn't such a problem in the league any more, but there are plenty of other vices (maybe just greed) that'll bring a man down.

Like I said before, I wish him luck because it's always fun to watch dominant players in the league... and he's so young! But I watch his development with great apprehension...

Gutter Snipe wouldn't trade Steve for the first pick - it would throw back our championship run a few years. Lebron has a lot of growing up to do emotionally before Gutter Snipe would call him a can't miss pick. Will LeBron put in the time in the offseason necessary to hone his game? This is what separates the true greats from the wannabe's. Not to mention that Gutter Snipe would hate to cheer for anyone who refers to themselves in the third person.
