Many of us Houston fans would say Yao of course, however do you really believe Yao is better?

Why didnt you write Y vs D?

Yao vs Dirk, comparing what? If it's their heights, Yao wins. If it's the shooting range, Dirk wins. If it's the durabilty, Dirk probably wins, not saying he wont catch a dirty disease. I hate an overly-simplistic poll like this. It's like my nephew playing who's daddy is better in the school.

Yao can put up points and keeps the other team's offense honest with his defense.

Dirk can put up points and keeps the other team's offense happy with his lack of defense.

I doubt anyone will try to pimp slap Yao.

Dirk is 7ft tall. He has no impact on the low block at either side of the court. He doesn't assert himself offensively, he waits for his teammates to break the ice. Its a disgrace to watch, yet he gets praise. Dirk has held a promising Mavericks roster back for too long. Dirk has made it clear he is a secondary player. He doesn't even want to be the leader. He is scared. Those NBA commercials with the split faces, "I like the fear" commercials, you know the one. Well Dirk doesn't like the fear. It means hes close. To going home.

What percentage of available games has Yao actually completed?

Dirk never misses games. And he puts up better numbers. Why anyone would vote Yao is beyond me. Of course, this being a Rockets board I'm not surprised in the least.

And the disgrace that is Dirk Nowitzki has accomplished more with his limited testicular fortitude than Tmac or Yao combined.

Mason got in Yao's grill? Your memory when it comes to McGrady is infallible. But Yao doesn't get the same kind of attention.

    Think about this one.

Would you trade Scola, Battier, and Brooks for Nowitzki?

    I don't think I would.

Yao is the best in his position, and Dirk is....? Also Yao can take Dirk easily 1-on-1.

    Which one will it be?

Yao is the best center in the league? I'll take Dwight Howard, but that's still hardly a glowing attribute. Center is the weakest position in the NBA.

What's the point of this poll?

Yao would win hands down. Dirk may be a bit faster/more athletic than him, but I don't doubt Yao's shooting ability or his post-up. Yao is just the better player period, individually and on a team.

I hate the mavs, but yao has done nothing to warrant being called great. Being healthy is part of being great. Dirk has taken his team to the finals.

No, I don't believe Yao is better. Dirk has taken his team past the first round a number of times. He's gotten to the finals. He's put together an MVP-caliber season. When he was out with an injury, his team struggled to win against good teams.

    MVP's

yao = 0 (same number of second round appearances)

    Dirk = 1
