    Who is better?

A certain poster has told me that he is confident that had Yao been in this year's draft, he would have been picked after Darko.

    Opinions?

A 7'5 true center vs a 7'1 18 year old who can play Center or either forward position, who also has a better jumpshot and agility.

Now if you're Detroit, who already has Ben Wallace (who can't shoot, but plays good defense), why would you pick another primarily defensive player over Milicic who can defend and *gasp*...score.

And yes, I am the mystery poster nomar's referring to. Scary, huh.

jay bilas (sp?) the espn analyst likes darko over ming too, i think.

personally, i'll still take ming and his potential over darko. time to pull out the overused cliche -- you cant teach 7'5". and darko suffers from the same problem as ming -- lack of strength.

From everything I've read, Darko has no post-up game and doesn't even play center. And in playoff bball, the post-up center is KING.

I don't know what you've been reading than, everything on ESPN has said he's got a good all around offensive game, and that eventually he'll either be a C or PF.

Wow, it's like it's still a year ago, and Yao Ming hasn't yet stepped foot in the NBA. I'm guessing you saw maybe 2 Rockets games.

Yao has offensive skills Milicic dreams of. Or, I just forgot, Yao Ming only scores because he's tall.

Heh, you know Yao Ming is going to be good when he's called a "primarily defensive player" with his type of post moves and touch.

BTW, there's a reason Yao Ming was talked about being the future #1 overall pick for about 3 years, and Milicic came out of nowhere 6 months ago. And it's not just because Darko is in a war-torn country.

Why not just wait and see who is better? I am convinced by ESPN or any other media that who can or cannot play until I see him play in NBA. I am not even convinced that L. James is as good as they say, not to mention Darko. After seeing Ming last season, I would still pick him #1 if he were in the draft this year!

Yao will be, if not is already, better than big Ben. That is common consent, right?

Love to see Darko go against Shaq next year and block his first 3 shot attempts

Milicic came out of nowhere 6 months ago because he's from Serbia, and he was only 17, not a lot of NBA GM's looking at 17 year old serbians.

The fact is, Darko has a better mid-long range shot, and his physical frame is still developing. A team in Detroit's position who can get points from the paint needs someone who can not only score from down low, but also from the outside.

What I said was not meant as a slight to Yao, who will be good, just that the teams who would be involved in this scenario have needs that aren't conducive to drafting Yao. Thank you Nomar, for pitching a b****.

I think they'll both be great big men. It's like comparing Duncan to Garnett. Yao is more of a traditional big man like Duncan. Darko will be more versatile like Garnett. I'd still take Yao over Darko though.

:D It's hard to believe that there are still doubts about Yao's ability to dominate in NBA. Darko over Yao? Maybe if you are Darko's mom.....

    Just curious, have you?

I am not sure what kind of player Darko will turn out to be, but it seems to be premature to project his stardom based on some ESPN analysts' opinion.

I have seen about 2 of his games actually, and I'm very impressed, he'll be good but I don't think he'll reach KG/Duncan level, which is what he'd have to do to be better than Yao. Very fluid, very mobile. Not very strong, ad he doesn't have Yao's strong lower base.

I'm not the one classifying Yao as a defensive player. Do we really have to go into a discussion if Yao is an offensive weapon or not? Clearly, since people are calling for the entire offense to be run through Yao he's a "primarily defensive player".

I'm merely discounting an opinion of why Darko will be better (for the Pistons or anyone, for that matter) based on the fact that this opinion states Yao to be a primarily defensive player, which isn't even close to the truth.

Chuckles- How long has it been a fact Darko has a better midrange shot than Yao? Yao is very good from midrange, and he's shown he's an 80% NBA free throwshooter already. For that matter, Yao had a higher FG% in his rookie year in the NBA than Darko had in Europe. There's no fact about it; the fact is, Darko has not put up a shot against NBA players. Hell, based on how sparingly he played in Europe, how much has anyone seen him shoot with people his size in his face?

I suppose you're right though, Chuckles. With Corliss and Wallace, Detroit doesn't need anyone to score in the paint. I too wish Yao had as good an outside shot as Darko- I much prefer my 7 and a half footers shooting from the 3 point line. Ask anyone who has been to a Rockets game early enough to see the shoot around-Yao can shoot from long range, the question is, in a game- why would he?

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?

man you guys really make me laugh, Ming has already proven that he belongs and at times DOMINATES in this league......

Darko hasn't even proven that he can play yet...........

anyone that would right now take Darko instead of Ming is r****ded and anyone that says Ming doesn't have an offensive game hasn't watched a Rockets' game in the last year............

maybe one day Ming will make the All-Star Team and show all of you guys

OH WAIT HE ALREADY DID THAT

    AS A ROOKIE

I am sorry, did I miss something? What other low post presence did Pistons have besides Ben Wallace? Big Ben is not a scorer! Since when can Pistons get points from the paint? or maybe I should ask since when can Pistons get points anywhere? They play good defense but their offense sucks! I have a feeling that you don't really know what you are talking about!
