"Yao Ming the next Martin Larue?" "Manute Bol better at hockey than yao at basketball Does anyone remember this article. We should all email this reporter and ask him what he thinks now. http://www.arizonarepublic.com/sports/articles/1115friguide1115.html\ Weekend Guide Nov. 15, 2002 History happens in the Valley tonight when the Houston Rockets visit the Suns at America West Arena. Of course, that means No. 1 overall draft pick Yao Ming visits (8:30, Cox 9, ESPN, KTAR 620, KPHX 1480), making this quite an occasion. That's because inside of three or four years, he'll probably be history. It also brings to mind an interesting question: How do you say LaRue Martin in Chinese? A master of almost no facet of the game, Yao makes Martin look like another historic basketball figure, Wilt Chamberlain. Manute Bol has a better chance of playing hockey than Yao does of having an All-Star career. OK, maybe that wasn't the best example, but you get the picture. This completes our history lesson. And enjoy the game. Let's get with the rest of the programs
I especially like this part, now that Yao's shown he can score (30pts in one game), rebound (16 in one game), block (4 in one game), and pass.
I emailed that guy, what a stupid article. I think he's just a weekend hack and not really much of a writer. Bob Young is their regular beat reporter I believe.
here's his e-mail address, we should all e-mail him and tell him he sucks. randy.brickley@arizonarepublic.com
Thanks for the picture, now that I saw that it all makes since. It reminds of this guy I was sitting next to at a bar watching the last world series who was telling me Tim Salmon had a bad swing. And these idiots say these things like they know what they are talking about. This guy's girlfriend probably got stolen by a Chinese guy so he was hating on Ming. Because he obviously didn't know anything about Yao.
I just sent Brickley the following: I hope you went to a good j-school (because they're all laughing at you now over the Ming story). I know you didn't go to a good psychic hotline school because you might have been able to foresee Ming's already emerging superstardom. My advice is stick to reporting on high school football. M. Let's see if he replies.
Does Dick Vitale have email? He probably didn't like him because he didn't go to Duke or wasn't coached by Bobby "The General" Knight.
I sent a short email to this fellow: ... I glad to read your article. From it I know one thing: your are a smart writer. Get in line with Barkley and do the right thing - kiss ass!
I too sent an Email....went like this: "Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha....................MWHAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.... In case you haven't noticed. Ming has averaged over 20 the last 4 games. Has a 16 board game, and a 4 block game. Thanks for your INCREDIBLE journalistic powers of prediction. They made for great laughs on many an NBA website. Keep them coming. Sincerely, The real basketball experts who actually watched Ming play more than one game before they commented on how terrible his game was." Just received his response. Went like this. "hope you enjoyed it. hope you also enjoy it when he eventually proves not worthy of the no.1 overall pick. he gets shoved around too much and he can't move. granted, you can't teach height. but i still don't think he was worthy the no.1 overall pick." Thought you guys would enjoy his response.
What do u think he will say if he wins ROY, and makes all star team. And ends up leading league in fg%. Guys I think we should keep this thread around for a while and keep emailing him as the season progresses and ask him if he is changing his mind.
Okay here's what I wrote... Did you really believe the things you said about Yao when you wrote that crap or where you taking the opposing journalistic viewing for the sake of selling papers... because if it was a counterpoint to sell papers than I can almost accept your ignorance and You could save face like Barkley and kiss a jackass... but if you actually believe what you wrote in your short time of watching Yao than I would have to say you are the jackass and should not be writing about basketball... pick another sport like pro wrestling... your bs degree would fit right in... I think he should like that
