Yao Ming's post on his website

He said he felt the attitue of Shark. Shark was playing for fun at the start of last night game so he had few inside play that the reason why YM got no PF in the 1st half. But Shark was incited in the 3rd qrt and played his full energy, so YM agreed what Shark trash-talked that no one could ever play him one on one.
YM also had his last year in Shanghai Sharks as example, he played a lot of fun then but if someone insulted him or at clutch time he would be going to play full energy and give them the lesson. So is Shark in NBA.
YM predicted then next Yao-Shark will be a tough chanllenge for him since Shark will stand up and fight back to take him as a serious opponent.

    ---------------------------

the link is as following for anyone could reading Chinese

    yaoming.newclub.sohu.com/threadMode2.jsp?club=-1&forum=1&thread=15790&message=-1&start=0&msRange=15&q=null&unlock=false&unarchive=false&tstart=0&trange=15

Someone plz translate it fully in English accurately. I'm not capable for this job. :p

It's good to see YM still keeps his mind clear. This is a long way to go for both YM and Rockets. Wish they could conquer "mountains" one after one.

At last, some funny stuff, what's in YM's Basketball player career so far have striking coincidence.

In CBA, YM leaded Sharks to defeat Rockets
In NBA, YM leaded Rockets to defeat Shark

Well, I officially outplayed the best center in the NBA. There is no stoping me now. Yao is the best. Shaq is too slow and out of shape to keep up with me. He is no match for my superior shooting, passing, and quickness in the post. I showed the cop wannabe and thing or two, and instead of him passing the torch to me later, I took it from him now.

pretty interesting stuff. i like the way yao views things. he realizes that next time shaq won't be playing around and taking yao like just another guy. next time will be the real test. yao is now on shark's :D radar. lets see if he can stay on there next game and come up even bigger.

just curious...is shaq translated as shark in chinese?

    Interview with yao on sina:

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2004-02-12/1513768739.shtml

When asked whether this was the very first encounter that he had truely and significantly defeated Shaq, Yao Ming replied: "You may say YES; but this is only one match. I had said O'Neil looks like a mountain to me. Winning a match did not mean that I have climbed over and conquered the mountain. I think it will take me more time to achieve this (goal)."

When asked how he generally felt about this win, Yao Ming replied: "I felt especially good; I was in good mood and full of confidence on court." When asked about his 1-on-1 encounter with Shaq, Yao Ming said: "Well, I have to shovel and push every time we competed 1-on-1. It's real tiring. But I personally think I've done a decent job to guard him well. O'Neil is that type of power player, but not too quick and fast on his speed. I can handily take care of him on defense."

While elated about his own performance, Yao Ming had not forget to place credits to his team mates. "I was the top scorer but this win is not entirely my personal victory; it belongs to the whole team. We never stopped encouraging each other; we never stopped leading by examples; therefore we played especially good tonight. We collectively defeated the Lakers tonight."

When asked whether he sees hope for the playoff after this match, Yao Ming replied: "YES, I have high hope for it. But after the All Star, we have more than 20+ matches, a lot of them with strong Western Conference teams. Therefore we can't be relaxed and complacent. We see the hope now and we also have confidence to sneak into the playoff, but we need to continue to play diligently (to be able to do it)."

Some reporters ask Yao Ming: "This is your second season in NBA. With this victory, do you think you have already steadily completed your transition and fully adapted to NBA life ?" Yao stated crispily: "(I don't think) you can say that; I still have many deficiencies." When further pressed on what were those deficiencies, Yao Ming gave a philosophical reply: "Can you see what lies ahead when you're turning a corner ??"

Some reporters asked: "You've been in USA for so long; what had been the biggest help to you so far ??" Yao Ming humourously replied: "I thought rest and relaxation time have been the biggest help to me"

Prior to the game, Shaquelle O'Neill asked after the parents of Yao Ming, and asked Yao Ming to relay his regards to his parents. Yao Ming told Shaq: "Today my parents are here on the scene to watch the match." After the match, when asked about this incident and how Yao Ming felt, Yao Ming said: "I've always believed, and now even more so, Shaq is a person who pays extremely great attention to family."

What's worth mentioning, Yao Ming and Shaq O'Neil has a small talk while on the field; Shortly after the second half had started, when Shaq inflicted a block shot over Yao Ming, Yao Ming jokingly cracked: "You seem to know how I am going to play that shot/move !!" O'Neil replied: "(That block shot is to) Congratulate you to be voted to start in the All Star

    My translation:

During yesterday¡¯s game, it seemed to me that I suddenly could understand how Shark was feeling about playing a game. Or, I should say that at least that was what I could feel of him. I think the major reason why he plays the basketball is just for fun. For him, it¡¯s not about to just win a game, but to control how a game goes. For example, he didn¡¯t play hard in the low post in the beginning of yesterday¡¯s game; otherwise I couldn¡¯t have 0 foul in the first half of that game. Instead, what he focused on was the cooperation between teammates; he was playing a role more like a ¡°point¡± center, i.e., he was just playing for fun. Well, you could see that his altitude changed since the third quarter: it seemed that he was outraged, and wanted to show his real power. Then, you could see that we really could not do anything but foul him. That reminded me of my last year of playing in CBA; I also wanted to play more just for fun during a game unless either the game is critical or I was troubled by some players. In those situations, I would have to play in my most efficient way, which was exactly Shark was doing since the third quarter of yesterday¡¯s game. This is not that I want to say something good of Shark after we beat them last night. I am just telling the plain truth. He will definitely play in his most efficient way in our next match-up. My last words, I don¡¯t think there is a way to play him on one on one; it is simply impossible. So, he is right that I will never be able to play him one on one, and ever, ever.

Thank you for what I believe to be a proper translation. It is good that you responded positively despite the silliness that preceeded your translation.

Another way Yao is a bit like Hakeem...

    "Stay HUMBLE, Stay Hungry"

He's saying the right things, but you know from his reactions last night that he wants more!!
