that and a quality backup center or two should be the front office's first priority. Yao obviously can't last > 100 games in one season including the CBA. if he gets his shoulder surgery, the rehab is at least 6 months. that way, Yao can get away with playing only 50 games in the regular season next year as well as nurse the rest of his injuries. it might be the only way for Yao to finish strong. and i hate to say it, but he's going to need preferential treatment. no regular season games with > 35 minutes, and maybe even no back to backs. i know it sounds like T-Mac part 2, but really i don't have any other ideas besides trading him likely for a worse player unless Morey can work some more magic.

If Yao will stay as our main focal point on offense, than no.

If Rick and Morey decides that Yao will have to be 2nd option, so Yao can save some energy, then that might be a good plan.

Without Yao, we could develop some plays or some offense that doesn't include Yao. This will help us prepare not using Yao all the time.

I remember reading a few weeks back that China does expect him to play this Summer in some tournament. Shoulder surgery may not be an option for him, unfortunately.

You wanna tell me where? Because If so, I would be absolutely furious with China. He can't get a break over there. Give him a true off-season and a legit back up center and I'm sure he'd be able to be healthy from the start of the regular season to the end of the playoffs.

I thought I read it in a thread here somewhere. It's hard to locate it with search turned off.

China would prevent him from playing in the NBA if he didn't fulfill his national team duties. Yao doesn't really want to, but he doesn't have much of a choice unless he defects.

Yao is already on CNT's roster to compete for the glorious Asian cup. CBA has signed him onto it.
