His agent Eric talked about his schedule to XinhuaNews. What he will do recently: 1. Talking with the management and coaches of Rockets. Topics:review the whole season--what has he learned about NBA; How did he play in the past season; His suggestions to the team; What should he do in the summer. 2. two physical examinations One is an overall physical examination, another is a bone examination. Both will be done by the best doctors outside of Houston. He has to do them in two different cities. The results of these two examinations will be important to his summer training. 3. communicate with NBA His efficiency index is the #1 in all rookies. NBA told him to wait for the result of ROY. 4. some personal affairs. He will stay at US for two to three weeks. After he finishes all of these work, he will fly to shanghai and take a rest. The Chinese NT will begin their training at May and finish the Asia Championships at mid of September. http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2003-04-18/2314427698.shtml
What is a bone examination? Is that literally doctors looking at all the bones in his body? Do they do this with him because of his great height or is this something that is done with all players, not just 7 footers? Anyone know?
As I mentioned yesterday, he will have approx 3 weeks rest after his China team duties before reporting to Rockets camp.
Thats great to hear. I hope Yao will play at least 36 MPG next season...I don't think its a stretch to make him play 3 out of 4 quarters of a game. Hell, if Yao can stay consistent for that many minutes per game, then we should definantly trade Cato or find a way to work him into the rotation WITH Yao. Nobody should be taking 42 Mil for only playing 1 quarter per game, I don't care how much he hustles.
Most big guys get bone tests done to determine the stress level on bones particularly in the feet. This helps them to determine what offseason precautions should be taken and what training should be done to help protect them. This is pretty common with big men especially after all the problems other big guys have had with their feet and ankles.
This is why I believe the Rox wants to move Cato. The rod is hot now - this is the best time to trade with his value at probably at an all time high. Yes if Yao play 35 minutes next season, $6 per annum will be too much to pay for a backup that will play only 12-14 minutes per game. And about the bone exam, I believe part of the need for this is that Yao experience a stress fracture in one of his legs in his teens.
Here is the FIBA-Asian website ------> http://www.abc-basketball.com/calendar/2003calendar.htm According to this, the only competition Yao has is Sept 3rd - 12th. I found it hard to believe that he will start training 4 mos early.
First day of pre-season practice was on October 1st this past year. Expect the same for this year! Here is an article from Clutch on the 1st day of practice for the 2002-3 season. Mainly about Boki Nachbar... http://www.clutchcity.net/news.cfm?NewsID=1062
Codell: Why is it hard to believe? It's always like this. You bet Yao will be very tired next season.
Why? Chinese head coach has vowed to use some "special" training methods on Ming. Maybe they can teach him some secret skills. I bet you will see a beast next season.
Sun12, don't worry. You guys will get the 8th spot in the playoffs next season as well--since the Jazz will be moved out of the playoffs.
Windandsea: If I remembered correctly, in one of your own post, Yao told Rudy himself that he would be very tired after the summer because the new coach is an old-type coach.
So YM will practice hard in summer. Not bad. This coach has said he will train Ming based on Ming's condition. Let's see what will happen.
I hope the training styles don't conflict. The Rockets will want him to get stronger and gain power. But, the NT team might not want that. Hopefully both teams will share information for what's best for Yao.
One month's rest before training and one month's rest when he comes back here? It's not great, but it's decent. Hopefully, he'll take rest to the MAXIMUM. Sauna, lounging, massages, pedicures/manicures, yoga, SLEEP.....Just relax....That's what's important... We need him to really get away from the stress.... Windandsea, thax for the GREAT info...It's good that his agent will consult the Rockets and will take advice on what Yao should work on.
