I'm watching it, too. Nothing we Rockets fanatics aren't intimately familiar with, but fun to watch anyway.
Yeah I'm also watching someone had a sign up there saying "Yao Ming + Tracy McGrady + Jeff Van Gundy = Champioship" It was funny how they added JVG out of the blue..you normally just see player's names
I miss watching how Yao was from a skinny shanghai shark to a determined rocket.. so much pressure on the big guy.
A couple of things I thought were interesting. At least I never knew about them before. 1) First live NBA games shown in Chine were the '94 Finals: Rockets vs. Knicks, 'Dream' vs. Ewing. Ironic how he was drafted and plays for the Rockets and is coached by Ewing. 2) Back in the day they criticized a player for scoring 25 points for it meant he was not a team player. Kind of goes along with showing the mind set they had for basketball and the way it should be played. 3) CD said he asked Yao why he doesn't dunk and, of course, Yao responded with not to show up an opponent. Well, afer CD came back and said that you have to dunk otherwise 6'5 guys will block you, Yao said that he is willing to change. 4) Yao also said he believes he can be better and that he wants to be better. It's just nice to see how far his mentality has changed in the last few years and that he believes, and is willing to work, to be a great player for his team and country.
There seems to be very little "determined" modus operandi coming from Yao Ming. It would be more accurately read..... "from a skinny shanghai shark to a passive rocket."
The first live NBA game shown in China definitely not 94 Rox vs Knicks. NBA showing went way back than 94 it started in the 80s. The Jordan and Barkley showdown in 92 was live broadcasted as I recall.
Well, I was only going by what Yao said in that special. I would never know. It's very possible that I mis-understood him.
Rox vs Knicks WAS the 1st one. You may remember games between Jordan and Barkeley were shown at evenings in China.
the 1st NBA game I watched on Chinese TV was between Lakers and Pistons. the Pistons won the champion finally. It was shown at late nights, Im not sure if its live or not.
Due to the time zone difference, unless it was shown Beijing Time in the morning, it was unlikely live. And I remembered that game as well. It was a Saturday night I think. It was so much fun to watch them....
Cant be. I remember watching Knicks in that year in the playoff early in the morning. So at least there were games broadcast live before the final already that year. Actually I was watching in Shanghai. So maybe they were talking about CCTV live broadcast whole country, then maybe that was the first game.
