The newspapers are worried about what kind of effect Yao Ming’s performance will have on Shawn Bradley’s fragile psyche! On ESPN Radio 103.3 at about 8am they play Chance’s Yao Ming song. At 10am Norm Hitzgis on 1310 the ticket declares that many had speculated that the Rockets might be a 1st round play off opponent for the Mavericks. He then say’s that after watching Yao Ming last night that the Rockets are the one team that no one including the Mavs want to see in the first round. Yao Ming’s greatness has been excepted in the one city that hates Houston and the Rockets the most…Dallas.
That's awesome. But I'm sure that Dallas isn't the only place buzzing with Yao Ming headlines and talks right now.
Well, the whipped us by 13 with Yao Ming having a career game, so I don't see why they should fear us in the playoffs....if we even make the playoffs... Oh well, at least we have the current advantage in football.
The odds are that in another meeting Cuttino Mobley can make at least one shot, and Avery Johnson won't look like a 30 ppg scorer off the bench. If they expect those two players to be the same as last night then yes, there is no reason to be afraid...
Maybe because they see the future A-Train. Gimmick Zone defenses fall apart in a 5 or 7 game series. For now, the Rocks looked uncomfortable attacking it, how long do you think that will last? DaDakota
Cuttino Mobely was one of the things brought up on the Norm Hitzgis show. He admitted that there may never be another game where Cat does not score. He also made the comment that the Mavs had better take advantage of the oppertunity to win the championship this year because when Yao Ming and the other Rockets have a year of playing together that they are going to be very scary.
I think that even if the Mavs felt they could beat the Rox in a first round playoff, the Rox would break them down so much, they'd be worthless against a second round opponent. Gotta respect that at least.
But A-Train, you have to admit that, while they haven't beaten a top team yet, there's a different vibe this year to this team, like a '...just a matter of time...' sort of vibe. I don't remember them playing very well against top teams 2 years ago when they won 45 games, but I just feel A LOT better about the current cast.
That is why I said in another thread that if last night was game one of a seven game playoff series with us then Dallas would be in big trouble. And for all of those who still think that we cannot finish in the top four in the west, you need real help.
That was a FIRST for this Rockets team to have to play with a dominating center in the game. Rice hasn't played that much in 4 games this year. They will get used to having Ming in the game more, and be able to play better together. Tonight Ming gets his first back-to-back opportunity and I hope he can put two games together. I have to say that out switching defense puts us in too many mismatches. Rudy likes to always have the mismatch on our side but it sure seems that it is the other way around this year. No matter who we have in the game we seem to have a mismatch going on defense.
I get that vibe sometimes. Watching the 2nd quarter of last night's game gave me that vibe. But Yao Ming's 12 points aside, in that second quarter the team just played with more energy. On rebounds, they had 4 men crashing the boards, and even though everyone was under there, they were still able to beat Dallas downt he floor for some fast breaks. You have to admit that at times they look lathergic out there because of their style of play. If Ming's play can get the whole team fired up each and every game, then the rest of the league should be worried.
First off, the final score was not indicative of how close the game really was. Other than Rice, our outside shot was non existent. Take away Avery Johnson's performance and those LOUSY 3 free throws at the end of the half and you have yourself a thriller. This game confirmed the fact that the Rockets are a top 6 seed in the West. Come playoff time, our team will have enough chemistry to do some damage.
"Yao is the real thing," forward Dirk Nowitzki, a great player in his own right, told the Dallas Morning News. "He can be a scary player." If their star player said we can be scary..then I guess we can indeed be very scary...
they may not fear the rockets as they exist right now...but the rockets are just scratching the surface..they're going to get better...the game was closer than the score indiciated...the mavs have zero answers for Yao Ming...and it looks like it will likely be that way for a long time. GO ROCKETS!!!!!
I agree about the vibe thing ... I was just talkin to another Rocketeer and said the same thing, that you could feel the energy and the fact that given the time, this team will gel well together. Everyone seems to know their role and what to do, somewhat until some "ballhogs" come in and refuse to pass And if in his 5-6th game, Yao can do this ... come playoff time, WHOA! The team will know how to feed off of each other by then and it will be looking good!
From www.dallasbasketball.com ... Following the game all of the Mavs players were amazed at both the Rockets and of Yao Ming. “He’s got terrific skills and is very mobile,” said Avery Johnson. “The league better watch out because he’s going to be a threat.”
Everyone should fear the Rockets. We proved last night we have as much offensive talent as anyone in the league. All we need is some defense. If you get a hand in Dirks face and a hand in Finley's face you change the game. But obviously, we have some work to do on the defensive end.
Rome started his show today with an ass-kissing take on Yao. Not once did he acknowledge that he was wrong to bash Yao. In fact, from his take (i.e. coverup), if you didn't know any better you would have never known that this guy was a serious Yao basher.
Jim Rome kissed some more **S right now. He has done it twice today. Too many converts - I don't think we can handle this kind of **S kissing.
