It's time for a little side topic. Bill and Matt talked about this last night. I don't know if this was true but the story was Bon Jovi was excited to know that Yao was staying on the same hotel in Toronto. When they told Yao about it Yao replied, "Jon Bon Jovi who?". I'd like post this is the general forum but most of the people there are "usuals", I don't know whether chinese rockets fans go there. Is Bon Jovi not popular in China? Anyone?
They are not popular in China now, however popular in Japan and other Asian countries. It's not surprising at all Yaoming dont know the Jon blah blah , most chinese ppl dont know him either. If you ask him some movie stars, that might be better, but music? It's way too different music culture between China and USA.
china opened up in early 80s. for the 1st 10 years to the 90s, it's mostly hong kong, taiwan music being popular. mid to late 90s, other style came to china. so i'm not surprised that they are not popular. but if you ask who is britney spears, they all know.
LOL. I have a chinese friend who is a big fan of Madonna. It's not a surprising since these singers are in the POP music genre.
I'm pure Chinese...I mean I was born there and had been there for almost 20 years before came to the U.S., most of the popular American singer are well know in China, including bands, well I'm not a big fan of American singer, but I know who Bon Jovi is, and I like his "It's my life."
Rock is not as popular as pop music in China. But it's weird that Yao has been living in US for so many year but never heard of his name. Is Bon Jovi not popular in Houston?
Who wouldnt know Soulja boy? Seriously Hes the best rapper alive, hes levels above Rakim, Talib Kweli, the entire Wu-Tang Clan, Big L, and Tupac. Hes true hip hop, he is reincarnating it from rappers like Young Jeezy, Lil'Wayne and Jermaine Dupri.
I hate to derail this thread, but if you don't think lil wayne can rap you're not listening. I understand the sentiment behind your post, but lil wayne is already a better lyracist than probably half of wu tang, and big L.
