He has his own skill set and weakness (such as not strong enough). You either take him as your guy and live with his limitations, or you don't think he is your guy. I can respect both opinions. But stop with "He needs to dunk that ball like Shaq, Dwight Howard, or even Amare would have." Obviously he is none of them physically. Root for another team or start a campaign to trade him if you so desire.

People look at him and say because he's 7'6 he should just easily dunk on people. Well he's not as mobile as the guys you named in your 1st post and that is why it is difficult for Yao. There has been a few 7'6 guys, Manute Bol, Shawn Bradley, and George Muresan. Out of all the people that is Yao's height he has been the only one that has any type of offensive game and none of them dunked like Shaq, Amare, and D-Howard. And there is a reason why, just because Yao is the tallest doesn't mean he can automatically dunk on people at anytime. If he could he would.
He's not my guy. Too bad Morey will never get the flexibility to do what he knows he has to do in order to win a championship. Great role players can only take you so far.
Yes, and by the same logic we should also accept the skill set and weakness of this team as a whole, including Alston jacking up 20 shots every game, and Head making 10 boneheaded passes per game. Otherwise you go root for another team.
Then who's your guy? Lebron? Kobe? Dwight? CP3? Maybe another player whose team would rather bury themselves six feet under than give him up?
Yao is The Rockets. We are going to see his whole career here. I like to root for him and watch him play the game for us. that said: michecon, I think your thread title is going to start a new trend. "X is what it/he is." at least it's better than the "X, mostly A or B" threads
Well, there are plenty of people who want to ship Rafer's ass, but no one is saying Rafer should play like Iverson, isn't it. Guess what? it's much easier to remove Rafer than Yao Ming.
Exactly. Some of the more ignorant members here would be shocked to find out that most 7 foot (not even 7'6") guys that play the game don't make the NBA or even D1 college ball. I'm talking about 7 footers that eat and breath basketball. You know why? Because at 7 feet tall only a freak athlete can keep up with the pace of smaller guys without tripping over his own feet. Appreciate Yao for what he is and stop acting like there is some other level he can reach. The saddest part is that the guy is arguably on the decline physically and some people still act like he is still not in his prime.
Hey Michecon, are you a Wolverine? I noticed the "Hail to the Victors," as well as the phonetic similarity of your name to Michigan.
I think his weaknesses though really have shown moreso this yr than maybe ever. Yes he can score , nice shooting touch, but lets break down his weaknesses. Cannot defend the P/R, cannot adequately block shots, gives up WAY too many offensive rebounds (ie Boozer in game 7 and Foster tonight), has the soft hands so he gets stripped, and is maybe one of the most overrated passers out there, and plain and simple , he is soft. The softness may indeed be a product of how he was taught to play the game, to not dunk everytime , but I think Yao Ming has had his shot blocked more than any other player this yr. Kobe got him once because he tried to lay it up, Danny Granger got him tonight.
I expect him to play a little bit more enjoyably with another PF like marion who can play great defense and grab more rebounds than scola do. scola helps yao a lot on the offense end, as he can let the opponent pay when they intend to double up yao. However, all the strenth yao has saved in offense is gonna be used up in defense because scola can help him little at that end. Marion may be less capable offensively than scola but he's gonna do much more in defense. Deron isn't gonna be a problem anymore b/c marion can lock him up. What a deal.
Agreed on everything, I don't get why people moan and complain about the lack of dunking with Yao. He's tall but he's not athletic like Dwight and Amare. Those guys are like you say athletes with a freak of nature of athleticism. Yao has done damn good for his height and not to mention the man has foot problems. I don't know if a lot of these are knee jerk type post when dissing Yao but people need to realize it is tough for a player of his height to be doing the things that he is doing. I'm just proud of the man for doing what he has done for this team. There will most likely never ever be a player with the height of Yao Ming to put up the numbers he put up. None of the guys that are the same height have even put up half the numbers he has. Like you said 7 footers aren't dominating the league period and that is because they are generally not quick enough.
Your right, basketball players should never try to improve or evolve their game. Just stay the same, keep doing the same things. Dont try to get better! Give up! Hope other teams move aside and let you win. Then make excuses when you lose and tell yourself you can't. Never underestimate the heart of a coward. Dont be like Mike! Be yourself! Be a loser! Insanity: Doing the same thing again and expecting a different result. Maybe you should root for your player to flourish and get better instead of stay the same. Or you could just start another Yao Ming apology thread.
He's 7'6 too. Which apparently Adelman forgot with his decision to not have Yao on the court to protect the paint during Indiana last game winning uncontested drive to the goal. that cost us the game.
That move was made because Adelman felt like Yao couldn't guard Murphy on the perimeter. He saw that when Murphy hit back to back threes in the 4th qt.
