To shut up those who thinks Yao cares more about Olympics than Rockets season,

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2008-02-29/17133503474.shtml

Wang Meng: Some fans thought you gave up the Rockets season to make sure you can play in Olympics, what's your take on that?

Yao: To be honest with you, it's not like I can't play whatsoever right now. If I have to, I can play with my foot injury for maybe two more games. I can play the Memphis game, and I can also play the Denver game. Maybe I can play three more games, but after those three games I may not be able to walk any more. So still I can't play the remaining regular season and playoff games, and neither can I play in Olymics. It's impossible for me to give up the Rockets season, if we were playing the NBA finals I would definitely keep playing with my foot injury to finish the whole series.

And the Rockets and the Medical Staff would tell him to shut up and sit his butt down on the bench. Yao has great internal motivation and drive but he doens't know when to quit.

Next year we'll have healthy Yao, Francis, Tmac, PLUS landry and scola being used to the NBA competition.

That's going to be a strong team!

Why doesn't he not get surgery and if he makes it to the finals he can play.

Sucks that he is going to miss the Olympics. I know he's a Rocket but the man does have priorities before the Rockets. The man loves his country.

I don't think anyone can question Yao's integrity. The man is a model of sportsmanship and just an awesome human being.

it's been a few days since yao's out, but i find myself still in denial sometimes. that's how bad it is to me.

but the only good thing i've kept telling myself is exactly what you said there.

I think this injury will make the rockets a better team for next year. If the current rookies play extended minutes (Landry, Scola, Brooks) especially in the playoffs they will get much needed experience, chemistry, and toughness. The key will be integrating Yao in training camp/preseason next year and I am confident this will happen smoothly.

This is a great opportunity to show the rest of the league what the rockets are capable of doing in Yao's absence and solidifying the fact that the supporting cast and young talent is shinning through. Who knows, G. Green has a great opportunity to become a force under the tutilage of tmac and company.

Then next year, provided big Yao and Tmac can stay healthy (and other key contributors) and I will guarantee the Western Conference Finals and possibly an NBA title.

He's saying that IF he keeps playing hurt, he'll still miss the playoffs and then the Olympics. With him being out now, at least he can still play in the Olympics.
