Found this interview of Yao Ming by Wang Meng of Titan Sports, in which Yao Ming confessed that he still needs time to get adapted to the new systems of Rick Adelman, and he felt he and the Houston Rockets is not ready and prepared for the new season.

    Yes! first one!

It is completely normal to feel like this any time major changes take place, but the way Yao said it it seems like he feels uncomfortable in this new system, and I kinda got a feeling from the interview that he wants to go back to the low post more.
I bet he misses Jeff Van Gundy

I like how Yao is so candid. I have no doubt he'll "get it," as the season progresses. As much as we're looking forward to this team, I think we have to keep in mind we may not come out of the gate like gangbusters...

By the way, what does Maizi mean?

Oh and Yao, just shut up and play. ;)

That was a great interview ... kudos to the interviewer.

It has always been in Yao's nature to worry about the challenges facing him, but at the same time he does make an important point -- this team isn't going to come out of the gate firing on all cylinders. A complicated "read-and-react" offensive system like Adelman's will take some time to get used to ... the team will need to build chemistry and get to the point where they can make quick decisions without having to waste time thinking. It's nice to have a guy like Bonzi around who is already used to it -- that will definitely help.

Haha! Yeah, quit your whining, Yao. :p

But I was wondering the same thing, what does Maizi mean? Regarding Yao's reaction to the offense, I just think he's system shocked by all the freedom that Adelman gives his teammates. Given his work ethic, though, I don't think there's any question that he'll thrive in this offense eventually.

Maizi? What is that? Do not know. HaHa, Yao is a slow leaner even Rafer already knows the new system very well.

excellent post. it wouldn't surprise me if it took 1/4 or even 1/3 of the season before the offense really starts coming together.... way too many new players in a completely new system with a completely new philosophy.

i say we start hitting our stride sometime in january.

Better to overthink than underthink. I think Yao Ming will be just fine.

    Nice thanks

Give Yao a little credit. He had that injury and a surgery. He needs time to fall in right shape. He also got pretty tough summer

That was a really great read, wasn't it? Thanks, pryuen! I agree that it'll take some time for everyone to get on the same page, SWT. Part of the reason has to be the big roster. It would have helped, ironically, not to have had so many good players in camp trying to make the team. If those guys had all been "cannon fodder," then Adelman wouldn't have had to spend so much time evaluating whether to keep them, cut them, or move them, if they can. And we still don't know who will end up on the team. Well, it'll shake out.

Isn't it continually amazing how damn smart Yao is? Articulate? Organized? Every season I am amazed all over again. If we had him without the obligations outside of the team (obligations I understand, even if I wish they didn't exist), and healthy, since he joined the Rocks, think of the level of play he'd be at now. As it is, when he's been healthy and playing for a long stretch, he's been dominant. I'm not as worried as he is about him adapting to Adelman's system. There's no doubt that he will, but as you said, it'll take time. The key is to win games and keep winning games while everyone adjusts. Bonzi, hopefully, should help with that.

Guess we'll see. Again, great read!

great read. i really don't want him thinking about brad miller or divac, he's leaps and bounds better then those guys. i'm interested in seeing what a real game looks like because i just don't see a better play then getting the ball to yao in the post.

    maizi= TMAC.

I guess it is some radom internet nickname for TMAC given by some random Chinese internet guy. It is lame. I doult Yao called TMAC "maizi".

    O.T.
Most of the nicknames of NBA players given by Chinese internet teen posters are lame and stupid. I cannot believe the reporters and commentors are repeating them all the time on TV and newspaper. embarassing. :(

Adelman can either make it or break it and right now rick is hurting yao's game by not exclusively going to Yao in the post. Rick is turning yao into a small forward or a big man that can only shoot jumpers. He siad he was going to mix it up but so far Yao is out of position and not in real scoring threats that show how hard he has worked on his game and what has made him on the verge of turning into a dominate force down low.

The work that jeff van gundy, carroll dawson, akeem and Yao ming himself will become in vain if Rick doesn't freakin establish Yao's low post game.

Didn't Pryuen post something about Yao that the team needs to stop talking and just play? If so, Yao needs to stop talking and just play.
