So what do you guys think ?

Is Yao Ming over-worrying ?? Will the Rockets' current equilibrium, chemistry and winning form be disrupted on his return ?

It won't be that big of an adjustment. He and the team will be just fine.

The only problem I see is Yao's teammates learning to pass to inside. only tmac and somewhat alston was able to pass the ball inside. It has became too predictable to the opponents that everytime down low they pass to YAo. teams are starting to front Yao and that's where the problem is as Yao turnover alot because of it.

The team need to learn how to space out and cut thru the lane and pass it to yao. Yao need to learn not to depend on his teammates for passes in order to be dominate, He would start from the defense and disrupt his opponents flow of game.

It should be the coach's responsibility to put Yao back to the team effectively.
Now imagine what will happen if you 'add' a 25/9 team player to a 0.68 (Rockets record since Dec 23) team?

We are gonna kill them from the inside and outside... So Yao's comeback will only give TMAC more room and vice versa.

How is Yao going to dominate without the ball going to him? Ben Wallace II? No offensive game? I thought Yao is more of an offensive center. Am I wrong?

it will be a problem if jvg tries to make yao the #1 option again. this team clearly flows much better with tmac dominating the ball, penetrating, and creating for the other players. when the gameplan is to dump the ball in to yao every time, the role players tend to wait around for something to happen. add to that the fact that yao is nowhere near the passer that tmac is, and you are bound to have some disruption to the chemistry this team has going.

however, if jvg just has yao come back as the 2nd option, letting tmac remain the creator, this team will look better than it already does. instead of tmac having to pass it off to deke on a pick and roll, he has yao ming. instead of having to post up juwan howard when the offense runs dry, he has yao ming. this also probably moves juwan and deke to the bench, which is a good thing. as it is now, every time deke sits down, our interior defense vanishes.. our only offensive threat is bonzi. when yao comes back, juwan and deke will be coming off the bench, along with bonzi. i think that's a pretty decent bench, along with head to drain the open 3s that bonzi and juwan will hopefully be able to create.

    thats not what JVG want

he wants the Ball to pass through Yao first so as to create a mismatch FIRST...and ask yao to distribute the ball as he sees fit..which i think is the perfect plan

when yao gets the ball..if he is not double teamed..then he will go for his shot which is the highest % shot on our team

if he is double teamed then he will have to pass the ball out to preferably tmac and to a lesser extent rafer who would need to timel find the open man for an open shot

this is the perfect game plan

of course...tmac and rafer HAs to get the ball to Yao in the first place..its when Yao is denied the ball..that Tmac has to run picks and rolls or use his magic to find ways of scoring ala penetrating

i want to see yao getting involved without the same entry pass into the post play. we get too predictable once we start running that play.

I agree JVG must not implement the all-Yao all-the-time offense again. It was too stale and the other players weren't involved enough because they stood around too much just watching Yao after he got the ball. Our current offense uses everyone and places a premium on ball movement.

Yao will replace most of Juwan's touches and perhaps Juwan should come off the bench when Yao comes back. The difference is Yao draws a double team. Hopefully Yao will also take away some of Rafer's FGAs. Shane must stay aggressive and shoot every corner 3 pointer available. Like I said a while ago, he should be fined $10,000 each time he passes one up. At the beginning of the game Yao should be most of the focus. As the game progresses, it should be up to Tracy to initiate and control things. It's hard to say how Bonzi fits in with Yao. Obviously you don't convert him into a spot up shooter. How well they play together is to be determined. With Tracy as the initiator, it may not be a problem at all. Just post them on opposite sides of the lane and Tracy will find one of them.

It's on JVG to make it work.

I believe that we will lose a few games while adjusting to having Yao back. I am already expecting some dumb threads to pop up that we would be better off without Yao, or that Yao should defer to T-Mac completely, etc. In the end, we will be much better off with Yao being the top option and T-Mac going back a little bit more to being a playmaker than a scorer, I think.

Who cares about predictability? If Yao and TMac can dominate like we know they can, EVERYBODY in the gym knows one of the two will shoot 90% of the time ...and there is nothing opponants can do about it except hope we miss the shot.

It's like Jordan in the 4th quarter. Everybody knows the ball will end up in his hands. How many game winning shots did Jordan make?

The championship Rockets teams were VERY predicable. Dump it into Hakeem first and let him create or kick it out for an open 3. Nothing anybody could do about it.

When you have dominant players, PREDICTABILITY is a good thing ...because you use it to your advantage. Predictability is only problematic when you don't have reliable scorers.

I would like to see Yao getting the ball on some cuts and quick rolls to the basket. I would also like to see Yao getting the ball in the high post and dumping it off to cutting guys like Bonzi and Shane who should be constantly be moving without the ball. We need a lil more motion in this offense.

    Wrong.

Yao's passing ablitites creates endless scoring opportunities for other players, especially TMac who will be more open than not.

I think thats the plan thats been effective. It's all Yao until the other team makes adjustments. If they don't make adjustments, it's all Yao all the time. We are just lucky to have 2 powerful weapons that can kill you.

On the radio this morning, JVG said that they will adapt Yao Ming on the fly, and wants Tmac to keep playing the way he is playing, so im assuming that they'll throw yao some sets, but keep the offense running through tmac. With this game plan, you cant double tmac off the ball.

It really does sound like JVG doesnt want to disturb the chemistry, but slowly add yao in until he also gels with the team.

It's a great problem to have, and I do think there will be a period of adjustment during which we might lose a few games, but in the long run it will definitely be for the best.

As others have already alluded, this team works best when McGrady dominates the ball and makes all decisions on offense. Of course, that doesn't mean that he will be the first offensive option, not at all, but he has to be given a green right to run the offense as he sees fit; T-Mac is as gifted a decision-maker as there is in the league, and he will make sure that Yao gets his 18 shots a night.

Yao is and should be our #1 offensive option, meaning that he will probably lead the team in scoring (or tie) on most nights. But one thing this team absolutely can not afford to do is take the ball out of McGrady's hands and reducing him to nothing more but a jump-shooter; that would be the same mistake the Rockets made with Scottie Pippen.

But I agree with the general sentiment already expressed here: our offense should not go back to being extremely predictable and easy to adjust to.

he's an idiot if he thinks it will disrupt things, We were pretty good with him and TMac, so why wouldn't it work again? Stop being such a 5 year old about things Yao.
