He has bought a big Toyota Sequoia (about 40000 US dollars) for his tall parents. The big guy planed to buy a Benz for himself later but it requires to be converted for him first.

And in the Chinese forum, the fans are not happy that Yao bought a Japanese car.

    LOL.

Yeah I think this is for himself. But it still needs conversion.

Yeah, I thought the reason it took so long for him to get it is b/c it was already being converted for him in Germany.

I thought Shaq recommended him that he buy a Hummer H2. How the hell is he gonna fit in a Benz. That driver seat is gonna have to be moved to where the back seat is so he can fit. I dont know about you but I dont want to see the future of our franchise get injured while trying to get out of his car!!!!!!!

No, Chinese know they do not make great cars (yet), but Japan-made is always a 2nd option.

I definitely go through European makes first.

ps: There is a undercurrent of Japanese-hatred among young Chinese people.

You know, Chinese people in the US, at least from my observation in Houston, tend to pretty much buy only Japanese cars. :)

I don't know about elsewhere, but that is not the case here in the states, at least where I am from and among my friends.

There's a huge difference between Chinese people living in the US and those still in China. It's easier to get detached from the hatred of WWII here because you almost never hear about the war crimes here in the US.

I personally find the reaction pretty amusing.

Yes, I realize the atrocities that were commited during WWII. Still, I feel that it is unfortunate that people have such hatred toward someone because of what someone's country did in the past. I am not saying we should ignore the past. We definately need to learn and honor the past, but it just seems unfair to hate someone, not becuase of what they did, but because of what thier government did in the past.

Anyway, back on topic. What conversions are they doing to Yao's Mercedes? Are they making it a convertible? :)

Tolne57, the reason why Chinese people hated the Japanese even now is because Japan still did not make an apology to the East Asian Nations, which includes China and Korea... The Germans did apologize and compensate for their part...

Talking about modifications, I think they're putting a hole on the soft top so Yao can put his head through (if the Mercedes turns out to be convertible... hehe)

I don't know about the new Hummers, but I drove the old Humvees as we call them in the Marine Corps, and I'll tell you, they are small as hell inside. It's huge on the outside, but not so inside.

No kidding. About 90% drive a Accord or a Civic. Before you jump on me for stereotyping, I'm Asian, too. I drive a Nissan. I'm Korean and proud, but as a smart consumer, I bought a Nissan over a Hyundai.

The hatred goes both ways. Young Japanese just hold as much contempt & arrogance over their asian neighbours. History forgotten is often repeated.

Back to the more serious subject. My taste might be questionable, but I honestly think AMG truck is a good choice for Yao.

It is quite roomy, good hp (5.4l-V8). The harmon kardon Sound System can get an upgrade.

Now I am going back to day-dreaming... ;)

What happend to asian sports compact craze eg. The Fast and the Furious type I am pretty sure the Honda Civic was very popular with many asians including Chinese. The G class is pretty nice alot of headroom but lacks the width of the S class and the V12. To set everyone straight Yao has not gotten his car yet despite what some Chinese papers has written.

Japanese cars are the best and most efficiently made. By best I mean they by far have the least defects. Its all about lean production.
