NEW YORK, December 16 - Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets and Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves lead all players in the Western Conference and Shaquille O'Neal of the Miami Heat and Vince Carter of the Toronto Raptors lead all players in the Eastern Conference in votes received after the first returns of the 2005 NBA All-Star Balloting program.

Through the 2005 All-Star Balloting program, NBA fans from around the globe are responsible for voting in the starters for the 54th NBA All-Star Game, which will be played in Denver on Sunday, February 20. The game will be broadcast live on TNT, Rogers Sportsnet, ESPN Radio and audio in several languages on NBA.com (http://nba.com) at 8 p.m. (EST).

Yao leads all players with 881,223 votes. He is followed at the center position in the Western Conference by Sacramento's Brad Miller (130,824). Garnett, the 2003-04 NBA Most Valuable Player, leads all Western Conference forwards with 751,586 votes, followed by San Antonio's Tim Duncan (570,090). Houston's Tracy McGrady (680,373) and Kobe Bryant (673,665) lead all Western Conference guards.

O'Neal leads all Eastern Conference players with 854,930 votes, followed at the center position by Detroit's Ben Wallace (266,891). Carter (619,959) and Orlando's Grant Hill (552,328) lead all Eastern Conference forwards. Cleveland's LeBron James leads all Eastern Conference guards (557,538), followed by Philadelphia's Allen Iverson (521,245).

Through the 2005 NBA All-Star Balloting program, which began on November 18, fans have the opportunity to vote in more ways than ever. The balloting program has expanded to include 19 languages on the NBA.com Network, downloadable ballots via Verizon Wireless and approximately 150 Loews Cineplex Entertainment movie theaters in the United States. This year, Twentieth Century Fox joined Sprite, America Online, Reebok and approximately 2,100 Foot Locker and Champs Sports stores in the United States and Canada as All-Star balloting partners. Ballots are also distributed in all 29 NBA arenas and all six NBDL arenas.

Whats the all-time record for all-star appearances? Yao has played in one since his rookie year, and unless something like a injury happens i dont see him missing one.

Agree about Vince. WTF. LeBron should be listed as Forward. I've always wished there was a way to solve the position issue. It's a shame we can't see a West starting squad of Dirk-Duncan-KG because of it.

Who's his competition? The 2nd best center in the NBA (Dampier) sucks
right now, making Yao an automatic all-star. :D

Amazing that Vince Carter STILL has that kind of popularity in the league. That's why teams try to trade for him. He puts butts in seats. It's that simple.

The West lineup so far isn't a surprise. That lineup will be in stone for years to come. I am amazed I guess that Yao leads EVERYONE in votes. His popularity is really rising!

The East is somewhat surprising. I thought Jermaine Oneal would have had more votes. Lebron needs to be listed as a Forward though. Great to see Grant Hill getting votes. He has had a great season.

Vince should definitely not be a starting All-Star this year. The guy has missed more than 1/2 of the season and continues to sit, just like every year.

I can't believe Steve might not make it, he's had the sickest highlights next to Lebron. Vote Francis!!!

Yeah the East would look better if Lebron and Ben Wallace were forwards.

    G - SFrancis / JKidd
    G - AIverson / LJames
    F - Lebron/ GHill
    F - BWallace / RWallace
    C - Shaq / BigZ

    PPierce / MRedd /

    G - Kobe / SNash
    G - TMac / RAllen
    F - KG / Peja
    F - TDuncan / Dirk
    C - Yao / BMiller

    Amare / AK47

Now that would be more fun to watch.

Peja has a good chance not to make it this year. Also, you forgot JO and Wade.

Has anyone else been filling out the ballots at the games? If so feel free to join me and my gf. We usually sit a little past the downstairs spot to get the ballots between a truck and a booth that sells Rockets gear. You can't miss us :) Only Clutchcity.net members are allowed though, so if you bring others they have to stand. :D The only bad thing is that the stuff they're giving out isn't very good. I remember at the Compaq Center they gave about autographed shirts to the first 50 or so that finished doing a certain amount of ballots. This year you can get a shirt (100 ballots), poster (75 ballots), dunno (50 ballots), water bottle (25 ballots). Now that we've got all the posters I guess we'll get the shirts. See you there, or at least stop and say hi.
