The deal is for 3 years and terms not disclosed. So McDonalds dumped Kobe for Yao? It would be interesting to see Yao dueling with Shaq off the court in BK vs McD. I perfer whopper myself.
It also covers anything having to do with Rockets players. Back on topic, for some reason I shudder to think of what the first Yao McD commercial could be like. McDonalds commercials are rather unwatchable...
oh god. I hate McD's ads, and I don't think having Yao say "I'm lovin it" is going to make them any better... I prefer BK any day over McD.
Im thinking mini me will be in it, but yao will eat him instead. then it will say, "McDonalds brand new McNuggets, now with white meat!"
Yeah. I just heard the news. And McDonalds is his 9th commercial contract which has not open in detail yet.
I guess Les was right, from a marketing standpoint, when he said he'd be "bigger than (Michael) Jordan." I think I recall Les saying as much... Worldwide now with Reebok, McDonald's, VISA... the NBA.
the commerical should have yao sitting at a mcdonalds table and refusing to dunk a chicken mcnugget in the barbeque sauce.
that must be a specially made table. their tables and chairs are rather small and fixed. i can't imagine yao squeezed into one of them ... oh and i hate mcdonalds.
didn't want to start a new thread but I found this interesting article that lists Yao Ming as the highest paid entertainer in China. http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/content.asp?y=2004&dt=0211&pub=Utusan_Express&sec=Entertainment&pg=en_04.htm China star rankings hint at struggles of showbiz scene BEIJING Feb 10 - China's number one celebrity makes most of his millions on America's basketball courts. Basketball giant Yao Ming isn't China's only top star to win a disproportionate amount of fame and riches abroad, new celebrity power rankings released by the Chinese edition of Forbes suggest. Hollywood martial arts dynamo Jet Li, Hong Kong pop diva Wang Fei and male crooner Leon Lai, whose image graces billboard ads all over in the territory, also cracked the top ten on the 100-person list, unveiled at a ceremony in Beijing on Tuesday. Film beauty Gong Li made two films in France last year. ``The immaturity of China's entertainment and sports industries has not prevented the country of 1.3 billion population from having its own celebrity stars,'' Forbes said in a news release. Income in 2003 was the biggest single factor is compiling list of 100 personalities, which attempts to track the transfer of fame into fortune, while media coverage was also counted. Yao had the most press coverage and the second highest annual income and number of Web hits. Most of his pre-tax income of 120 million yuan ($14.50 million) is thought to come from his salary with the Houston Rockets and endorsements with Nike, Apple Computer and Visa. It is not surprising that a nation's international stars lead such rankings. But in China, the show business and sport markets have suffered particularly from mismanagement and bureaucratic obstacles, despite the emergence of a mainland paparrazzi and captive fan followings. Cash-poor state television stations, entertainment companies and sporting goods makers, low box office and concert receipts and rampant pirating of sport apparel, DVDs and record albums all handicap the growth of the industries. Forbes, which began to publish in China last year, confined its list to stars born on the mainland ``in view of the fact that the mainland's show business still lags behind Taiwan and Hong Kong'', it said. But Chinese stars are doing better than before on the homefront. Actress Zhang Ziyi, the face of Coca-Cola and Maybelline in China, came in second. Mainland television nymphet Zhao Wei was third. Following are the top 10 of 100 Chinese celebrities: Name industry pre-tax income in 2003 million yuan 1. Yao Ming basketball player 120 2. Zhang Ziyi film actress 26 3. Zhao Wei TV/film actress/singer 19 4. Wang Fei singer/actress 28 5. Gong Li film actress 28 6. Zhang Yimou film director 18 7. Zhou Xun actress/singer 12 8. Leon Lai singer/actor 66 9. Sun Nan singer 24 10. Jet Li actor 140
Yao's gonna do a remake of the basketball skating commercial... "their defense is tight, but has no height.....McDonald's I'm luvin' it"
Hopefully, Yao only eats the Mickey D's during commercials...don't think we need him turning into a fat ass on us...
That'd be awesome if they brought Dream in to do a commerical with Yao, with Dream teaching Yao to say 'Unbeatable'. Yao doesn't quite get it down, but finishes by saying. "I'll get it some day." And they finish with a high five...corny but it'd be cool to see Dream in something...he's always out of the public's eye.
Ha I know they're just going to make some cheesy horrible pun about super sizing. It's way too obvious and something the average American would get. Either that or they're gonna unveil some new bastardized version of chinese food like mc-moo-goo-gai-pan and have shot after shot of Yao going "mmmmm chinarific". I just want a good laugh but I doubt it'll be anything that amusing.
