    Yao is changing CLUTHCITY!!!!!!

Ok, I am a newcomer to clutchcity to find someone to chat about Yao Ming and the Rockets. I was on nbadraft.net for a while and found most people there are just punks. When Yao had a bad game, they would call him a bust with greatest enthusiasm, and recently Yao proved them wrong, and they all transformed into LeBron James fans and talk about "the next..." like 12 years olds. Here, I found people are mostly nice and reasonable with each other, and best of all, we are all Rocket fans, and I don't have to battle with others on "why Yao Ming will not be Bradley". It's fun to rip those Ming-Haters in other places, but I am kind of tired of those "Wow, Yao is so cool, END OF POST" kind of posts. I love it here.

However, I two questions to discuss with you guys.

    1. Most newcomers here (like me) flooded this BBS because of Yao Ming. In another word, we are CONVERTED ROCKETS FANS. However, when after a couple years when Yao Ming is the thing of the past, are there still going to be this many people here?

    2. I cruised through the posts over last few months, and they were focusing on Rockets as a team. But now days, 40% of the posts are about Yao, 40% are about Ming, and the rest 20% are about Francis and Yao Ming. In another word, we are changing clutchcity. Is this totally a good thing?

I know I know, I am thinking too much. But why not?

That's the beauty of Clutchcity. True, some of the topics are ridiculous, ignorant, and worthless, but we feed off this stuff. One thing to always remember when reading forums, take it all w/ a grain of salt. That goes without saying.
But for die-hard rockets fans like us, we want to see every article that is written about Yao. Hell, if i see a thread titled: "Yao's legs bigger than average oak tree", i want to know how. We feed off every tidbit of information like it was manna in the desert. And Clutchcity is the place to find it. As for your question about will it die down once Yao becomes a bigger household name, i think it will because the bandwagon effect only lasts so long.
Average fans will return with the championships. It's the diehards that will keep contributing to this and keep feeding off it. Welcome to Clutchcity.

actually all the Yao Ming bandwagoners are making this board go to crud because they start repetitive Yao Ming threads instead of replying to the already existing ones about Yao Ming and that scoots the good Rocket team talk threads off the board.

Welcome Jamal. We'll take all the Rockets fans we can get (old & new). Now if we could only find a way to get them to the games.

the new rocketfans on the board just need to know how to post.I think almost every member starts with starting threads and after awhile they understand they should respond in other threads. But because there are so many new members there are suddenly alot of new threads.

i do hope alot of these people will go to the games

It doesn't matter much to us if Yao changes clutchcity.net. That being said, his ability to change the number of wins and home attendence does matter.

Actually, I think jamalccc is right and the board has drastically changed over the last 6 months since the draft and continues to. I don't post much but I come and view threads daily and to me there are a lot of yao Ming followers that have taken the board by storm. I think its great but the quality of the new threads has decreased and I have to sort through pages of threads to get past some that just don't make sense.

I am a huge fan like so many of the others here on CC but maybe we need a Yao Ming Forum for those who would like to discuss everything Yao! It would allow the Rocket's Forum to be more team focused and decrease the amount of Yao is Great threads.

Let me get one thing straight, however, I think Yao is amazing and I expect some great things from him. But with all the new members (and I expect many more will follow), it might be a good idea to expand the Yao Experience to a more focused forum.

    Wouldn't you agree?

I don't mind all this enthusiasm for the team, and welcome new fans.

However, it drives me NUTS not to be able to access the BBS after a game.

I can not believe how often all this new traffic kills the server.

I am sure that Clutch must be pulling his hair out after each win.

My ritural is all screwed up in that I can not discuss the game in the BBS.

    GRRR !!!

Guys, we need to reply to others posts more rather than just starting low quality thread (LOW QUALITY).

Let's face it, Yao's a hot topic right now. And not just among Rockets fans, but among NBA fans around the nation.

Hey, when we got Pippen, 40% of the threads were about Pippen, 40% were about how much of a bad idea it was, 10% were about our championship potential, and 10% were about which Rocket you bumped into during the lockout ;)

When we traded for Steve Francis, similar results.

When we got Eddie Griffin, similar results.

As long as Yao's impressing (and sometimes frustrating) fans, he'll be discussed on these boards ad naseum. Get used to it if you're gonna stay a Rockets fan! :D

    Why lie?

While I'm glad that my sometimes obscure Rockets are getting some press, it's mostly an annoyance at this website

    1. A flood of newbies who post stale, repetitive topics.
    2. A flood of people who care far more about Yao than the Rockets. I don't mind that, and I understand... but this is a Houston Rockets site, not a Yao Ming site.
    3. The flood of newcomers shuts down the server at times, especially after great wins... when I most want to come to the BBS.

Don't get me wrong... I'm glad that there are people interested in Yao and the Rockets. And many of he "Yao fans"may one day become "Rockets fans w/Ming as their favorite player." Yao is probably my favorite Rocket already - his unselfishness, technique, and off-the-court style are all great. But I still like the Rockts as a whole more than just him.

The success of this site has mirrored the success of the internet. As the number of users on the net have increased and the site has improved, the site traffic has grown.

The addition of Yao is unique because he is representative of so many people in another culture and country. Add to that the fact that many people in China use the internet to keep track of things like sports and you can see the boom.

Like the Rockets, I'm sure most Rockets fans are hoping that those who came for Yao will stay for the Rockets.
