Whew! Just knew it was going to be season ending.

We sure need the injury bug to leave.

Even with the good news, Yao is done as a franchise player. He's always going to face health uncertainties because of that problematic left foot.

Yao, if he's smart, and the Rockets should conservatively manage his career from this point onward. I think this is like a MLB Starting pitcher after severe shoulder injury making the transition to a Relief pitcher, maybe a closer.

Success at this point for Yao means playing around 60 games a year at 24-30 minutes max until the age of 35. No more 40 minute games for Yao Ming.

He is not a franchise player anymore so people should stop chanting for 40 minutes a night! If I were Yao, that's the new reality I'd be forced to accept. One more injury to that left foot and he's permanently done.

Next year, his contract should reflect his new role as a relief pitcher instead of starting. 8-10M/year for 4-5 years. That sounds pretty reasonable to me given the impact he brings due to his sheer size and skill.

What do you guys think about the contract? Do you think it's fair? Would Yao and his agent accept it? Would the Rockets? More? Less?

I wouldn't call it a sigh of relief. More like ok, hope it doesn't happen again this season. Holding my breath every play guy's involved in.
